    Work Boots!

A question for folks: What do you do that you can wear the soles out while the upper stays good enough to consider having new soles put on? I wear work boots daily on the farm. Plenty of time on gravel, but a lot on dirt as well. The uppers on my boots usually give out before the soles. Crawling...

    Downspouts drainage system

Is this only happening during or after rain? If so, I’d look to see if the drains are keeping up with the gutters.

Bauer Backpack Sprayer 58671 https://www.harborfreight.com/20v-cordless-4-gallon-backpack-chemical-sprayer-tool-only-58671.html Mega Fail 100% Garbage. Dig into the reviews on their site and virtually everyone has the same problem. The pressure switch diaphragm starts leaking and ruins the...

First world problem: Universal door remote that works on 2 frequencies?

X2 My first thought was a standalone Homelink receiver with switched outputs. Like this one https://topens.com/products/hlr01-homelink-compatible-universal-gate-door-opener-transmitters-remote-control-kit. You can use the switched outputs to actuate the button on the existing remotes or a...

Mini split for pole barn dry mode in freezing temps?

Cold air contains very little moisture. Usually the problem with unheated spaces is temperature changes. When the weather is cold for a while, then warms up you get warmer, wetter air coming in contact with metal and concrete that takes time to warm up and you get condensation. Usually the...

    Stolen Tools

The scale of stealing all of those tools is mind boggling. Just the thought of cleaning up those piles of tools is staggering. Probably an army of addicts working 24/7 to accumulate them.

    Water Supply Depth Under Slab?

If it’s not living space, I’d treat it as outdoors. If there’s a long term power outage, you want freeze damage where it’s accessible without breaking concrete.

    In ground post treatment

Might work somewhere, but no chance of pulling a post like that around here. A pressure washer after digging down a couple of feet all around might get it out.

    In ground post treatment

What will you hook to on a rotted post? Not a chance in the word of pulling an intact concrete set post with either unless it’s barely in the ground. I have an 8000 pound plus tractor with loader and can easily lift the backend off the ground chained to a 6” round post set in concrete.

    In ground post treatment

The amount of labor involved in pulling out a rotted post set in concrete and replacing it is far more than a few bucks for a sleeve.

    Let's Share Non-Obvious Tool Tricks

I had a 6” machinist’s rule that I had to have “calibrated”. It was used with a measuring microscope in an environment where we couldn’t put a moving measurement device or control the exact distance to the item being measured. Drove me crazy I had to send it in every 6 months for them to attach...

    The Pitch Hopper for roofing.

We had a new roof put on last year. 10/12 pitch. Roofers first job with them and they absolutely loved them. Two different times, other crews stopped by to see them in action.

New well set up for dummies

Fixtures are a problem in a power failure. Traps can’t be left dry, and they will be damaged if they freeze. A small propane heater in the bathroom that doesn’t need electricity might be an answer.

    New rafters for small garage

Around here, it’s cheaper to get trusses made than to frame it yourself. You might check that before committing to rafters.

How much money I've spent on tools.

About the second time you have to redo a job you paid somebody to do because you didn’t have time, tools start to seem like a huge bargain.
