What's your go to ratchet and why?

I start with a Snap-on comfort grip locking flex in the smallest drive size I think won't break. If that doesn't work then I go with the next smaller drive size in 90T Tekton (great warranty, and I have every handle length they make because they are almost cheap enough to be consumables yet...

Ratcheting wrenches: who makes what, and how to tell?

Williams is now making them in the USA, and you have other reasonably priced options like Proto. There are plenty of higher cost North American produced options as well. That said, Infar and Kabo produced products are pretty good.

LANG thread restorer sets made in China?

Amazon is convenient and the fact that they use their size to undercut competitors on shipping often makes them the best price. But that doesn't make up for the rediculous amount of scammers they allow. I try to avoid them whenever possible.

Tekton inpact bit sockets now on their website

I agree. Hopefully they will post the specs soon. VIM stuff is awesome and reasonably priced when on sale but to be able to get that quality at everyday low prices with a no hassle warranty would be awesome.

Would you ever just throw away your extra tools?

Don’t you think the better route is taking care of your own mess instead of dying and leaving it for her? I agree that the dumpster is about the worst place for viable tools although I’ve thrown my share of Chinese garbage in them. The wife wasn’t joking, she was saying take care of this junk...

    Electric angle die grinders ?

The OP did not mention what kind of compressor he has. He did mention he chucked the grinder so now some of you want him to buy a new grinder and a compressor too? Maybe run a 220V circuit? All great ideas but probably more money and effort than getting a cordless grinder. Back to the actual...

    1/4"-drive metric bi-hex (12-point) shallow sockets. Ko-ken, Snap-on, Stahlwille, … ?

Re: 1/4"-drive metric bi-hex (12-point) shallow sockets. Ko-ken, Snap-on, Stahlwille, That’s the question. Maybe Snap-on is more durable. You could buy 3 sets of Williams for one set of Snap-on. There is probably someone who uses them enough that they could wear out 3 sets. For everyone else...

    drill sets - 32nds or 64ths

True. Norseman does. https://bowerstool.com/norseman-118pc-metric-hi-molybdenum-m7-drill-bit-set-1-13mm-made-in-usa-sp-118m/ I just wished they made that metric set in mechanic's length. For anything but metal it probably doesn't matter. Whatever your local store has will be fine. I think...

    Cat S61 Smartphone

Better SoC and more RAM but lost the laser rangefinder. No mention of the ‘air quality’ sensor which sounds like it’s just a temperature/humidity sensor. I want a rugged tricorder as much as the next guy. This thing might make a little sense for a large corporate purchase for standardization...

    Cat S61 Smartphone

The Pixel 5 and 4a 5G will be announced at the end of the month. They will be able to access all of the new network technologies, run the latest version of Android and start at $450.

    Cat S61 Smartphone

I'm disturbed that it runs an ancient version of Android. That means woefully inadequate security updates. It has a low level SoC with limited RAM and doesn't support band 71 so don't try to use it on T-Mobile. Also no 5G, no Wi-Fi 6. Things you can now get in a $500 phone. The Flir One...

Rustoleum can issues - anyone else?

Pretty much. I use the matte black on the skid plates for my truck. When it sprays it works perfectly to cover up a rock chip in the powder-coat. I usually use brake clean and a sewing needle to unclog it before each use. It is a massive PITA.

    Long Handled 1/2" Drive Ratchet

This is the reality. The 36 tooth designs were fine in the day but it no longer makes any sense to buy them for any other reason than nostalgia. It’s like buying a typewriter.

    Long Handled 1/2" Drive Ratchet

I used to agree with this. Buy one on eBay and just rebuild it. I can't imagine breaking a Snap-on S series shaft before the anvil. The problem now is shipping isn't free so unless he chases down a truck the rebuild parts plus shipping are probably ~$50. I agree. I have a SHX80B for the...

    Teng vs. Tekton

I carry the wrenches in my truck. I have Williams USA in the shop. If you like plain open ends they are excellent no frills combination wrenches with great chrome. The only real issue is they are not long pattern. They are longer than equivalent Craftsman raised panels but that is about it...

    Teng vs. Tekton

That's a great story. Whoever said earlier that they are mediocre (maybe worse) tools with excellent marketing was correct. But if you have a popular YouTube channel and want free tools, they just might be your Huckleberry.

    Teng vs. Tekton

Teng is generally more expensive and has 0 North American sourcing. Between the two that makes Tekton the obvious choice for me. Specifically on ratchets, Teng seems to be still using the formally ubiquitous 72-tooth design which is generally quite strong but suffers from self-reversing since...

I hate home depot, done shopping there.

No, I doubt buy a lot of construction material. I suspect the lumber is not from China but I'd bet the drywall is. I buy my air filers there. 5 different grades, all made in China. It isn't about class it is about wanting a choice. Any choice at all besides China.

I hate home depot, done shopping there.

I usually only go to HD when I absolutely need it today. Once I found out the website would tell me aisle and bin number I can usually find exactly what I came for quickly. It really is almost all cheap Chinese garbage though. Correct. If I need some random item in the middle of a project, I’m...

    Snapon TechAngle vs Techwrench

If the Techwrench were half what the Angle cost, there might be a decision there. As close as they are in price it makes no sense not to get the Angle. I got mine over a couple years when they were 10% off. Fantastic kit!
