    A special find

Will we be seeing this in the classifieds here on GJ or on eBay?

Let me be the first to say… “You ****”

    The VISES of Garage Journal

And deservedly so. A Craftsman 5198 is definitely a “unicorn” find. Any one of them deserves the most careful treatment. I agree with Outlaw about that little shim piece.

Is EBay completely worthless or does it just seem that way to me

The extra advertising that eBay does on your listings if you opt for “promotion” can easily double those fees. But if it gets your item sold instead of just renewing it over and over for months, is it worth it? For most of the items I sell, the answer is YES.

    Permit approved!

    It‘s a trade off... That’s for sure!

    Permit approved!

I paid that much for a permit to replace the boards on an existing deck. It was an old deck built on top of a 2 car garage. All I was doing was tearing off the old wood, re Roofing the flat garage roof, putting down PT 2x4 sleepers, and then synthetic deck boards. I thought it was a...

Very large 8” vintage Wilton bullet style vice

Beat me to it. That’s exactly what I was gonna say.😎 Long ago, I took a Wilton bullet to the auto parts store and challenged the counter man to find a freeze plug that fit. He found one. I think I paid less than $2.00

    Shed floor rotted

You might be right depending on how the framing underneath is run. You’re definatley right about there being significant waste no mater what. PT plywood here costs more than $55

    Shed floor rotted

You'll need 6 sheets, right? That will run you over $400 right? You could have a concrete floor if you poured a bit over one cubic yard of mud. Think about it…

    Permit approved!

I’ve been through the prolonged permit process myself. I too suggest taking down that picture, cropping out your name and address and reposting.

    What's the minimum stud spacing for a 12 x 12 storage shed?

Sounds like you are asking for MAXIMUM stud spacing. I bet that 24 inch center to center spacing will work but in reality, how many studs will you save by doing that instead of 16 inches? More studs will keep your siding panels straighter. And give you more support for whatever you hang on the...

    Polishing out scratching

With all that sanding, I fear that you might be getting close to burning through the paint layer on that little box. You might want to quit while you’re ahead. 😎

Designing a Car Guy Garage, Drawing Feedback Welcome!

If you really want to be able to wash vehicles indoors, I strongly suggest adding a dedicated space just for that. Waterproof walls, floor sloped to a drain, etc. I can’t imagine a space with shelves or cabinets or workbenches being used once in a while to wash cars.

Whole House/Attic Fan for metal barn question.

Misters cool air and metal roofs by evaporative heat loss. They work great in dry climates. South Florida maybe not so well. 😎

Whole House/Attic Fan for metal barn question.

I have a whole house fan in my house but no A/C. It’s mounted in the ceiling of my hallway. Whole house fans have been around for MANY years. The idea is to expel stale hot air from a building and draw in outside cooler air. I use mine when the outside temp falls in late afternoon to draw cool...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT BlakeTheCarGuy’s Basement Shop

I agree. I‘m old enough to be your grandpa (77) and I’ve been following your progress ever since you first started posting on GJ. I sure didn’t have a garage when I was 24.

    Porch Concrete Repair Options?

I visited a distillery in northern Nevada one winter and noticed that they had a stairway that was heated just enough to melt snow. If you want to enlarge your project and add convenience, safety and value to your property, now is the time to install heating mats before you cover that old...

As long as you have some shelf space IMHO there is nothing at all wrong with that.

    Drawer slides-what a difference

Nice cart! Probably comparable to the industrial tool and storage boxes. I once made the mistake of opening a drawer in fellow’s fully loaded Lista cabinet. THAT guys is truly top of the line for a bigger box. I understand that Stanley Vidmar is comparable. It was a mistake because now...

    Wedding Ring

Interesting. Up until just now, I’ve never heard of someone who feels that strongly about eating cake. Is it the texture? I assume you like cookies or not? Inquiring minds want to know. 😎
