    Wedding Ring

Thanks for reviving a 13 year old thread. My wedding ring was custom made but not by me. It used to look like a bunch of small randomly shaped gold nuggets formed into a ring. After 52+ years of wear, it looks like this today.

Snap-on KR-1000a tool box followed me home yesterday

Same deal when a guy needs to use the dishwasher to clean car parts. 😎

    Estimating paint usage

I too am a big fan of Benjamin Moore. I like doing business with a professional paint store rather than a big box store or a hardware store. I usually use Regal. I get a small discount. But the real reason is customer service and knowledgeable sales people. They sell painting tools there that...

    Post Vise ID Help

Lots of those were made by Columbian or the more premium Peter Wright. I don’t know how to identify brands based on general shapes of the details of construction.

The H. William Oetjen - Proto Tool Archive Needs a Permanent Institutional Home

It sounds like the folks now in possession of the collection, who run a business, want to sell it.

    Workbench needed

How steady do you need it to be? I see locking castors on the one in your picture. I built one of my workbenches with locking castors and it is certainly steady enough to use with the castors locked.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

A few of us old timers have. Rubber bumpers are good additions to prevent that from happening. 😎

Time will tell if those O-rings will hold up. 😎 In the past, I have used red rubber hose washers.

Is the rocker switch the problem, or a symptom?

Likely a bad switch. It‘s best to replace a bad switch but I admit to one time when I jumped the switch so my air popcorn popper was on all the time. I just unplugged it to turn it off.

    Tool name?

That‘s not a very good suggestion. 😎 Not a good look and definatley will interfere with eating.

I just grabbed the one clipped to my pocket to show it off.

What piece of equipment to buy first?

Sounds to me like you could right away get the most use out of the scissor lift. In the meantime, keep your eyes open for good deals on gently used equipment for sale to save $$$$.

    Tool name?

Me too. That’s another good reason to always carry a knife. A man never knows when he might have to cut something. Or make a fine line on a piece of wood or plastic prior to sawing.

    rust - arrrg

Try this Rustoleum product. Use this and then apply porcelain enamel touch up paint. Rust reformer is a specialized chemical treatment that converts existing iron oxide (rust) into a stable, inert, and paintable surface. It eliminates the need to sand metal down to bare metal, chemically...

    Walkway Lights

How can you guys tolerate lights that have to be replaced every year or two? Crappy plastic junk constantly flowing into landfills. ☹️

    The VISES of Garage Journal

My American Scale Red Seal is a lot smaller. I used to have a NA Miata vintage 1990. Mine was white. Probably the most fun to drive car I have ever owned. Or at least tied with my 1973 Fiat 124 Spyder.

    Need a good Adjustable Wrench.

I’ve never tried a Snap On adjustable wrench but I have a vintage Proto adjustable that is noticeably better than my Crescent branded ones. But just for the record, I have a drawer full of metric and SAE sized combination wrenches.
