a tool is only as good as it's warranty! ALL have been in decline for the past decade, but china is getting better at quality! my snap on sockets only break half as often now.....
living in a apartment, does he really need a big floorjack? for the occasional project, i would use the little, 20 buck one from walmart, or some other store. they are light, rise as much as the big ones, serviceable, and stow easily....
are there cheap scanners that read abs codes now? I have been out of the loop for a couple of years now, and a local hack of a mechanic claims that his el cheapo scanner will read abs codes..... any truth to this? or has the wacky weed taken over his brain?
snap on promos, since everyone else is posting their bric-a-brac, i'll throw in mine. the dale sr/peter max car bought with a set of inverted torx sockets from antiquity...... http://www.flickr.com/photos/70492518@N00/9162416994
i bought my last snap on tool in 2001 when my dealer retired, new guy was a ****! never saved the reciepts past 3 years( taxes). so, now what? a tool is only as good as it's return policy! so snap on is as good as "made in japan", worth it's weight in scrap metal?
virtually any barrel lock should work, as long as the hole is the same size and the notches are similar! i have four boxes, all using the same key. chicago lock, i think it was, called, asked for 4 of the same. at the time it was 6 bucks a piece...
the slides have become loose over time. you could take them apart and try to tighten them back up with a pair of pliers or channel locks. but too much and it will muck them up. or you might see about new guides from craftsman...
I remember that ratchet also, damn thing gummed up( the selector) with the slightest amount of dust! had to spray the switch with brake clean prior to use! my guy returned it, said all of that design were being warrantied out....late 80's or early 90's?
nah. just to be clear, the tools are broken when i send them back! here, on the coast, there is only 3- 5 months of sunny, warm weather! so a ready set of tools is a must on that first nice day
esd? electric static discharge. i would think that, battery removed, you would be fine using a standard mini torx set. find a insulated pad for a workspace, and possibly use or find a grounding strap, if you are worried...
