Insulating 2x6 ceiling joists in garage ceiling…Can I get away with insulating with R21?

The codes today require cavity insulation and continuous insulation. I take it you are putting the foam board and the batts in the cavity. The studs are a thermal break equivalent to 10% of the wall area, so you are technically still short on overall R-value for the wall.

Insulating 2x6 ceiling joists in garage ceiling…Can I get away with insulating with R21?

R402.2.12 Compressing batt insulation reduces the R-value more than you think.

    Some long overdue framing reconstruction

As an architect, i might be expected to take offense, but I'll tell you, Frank Lloyd Wright didn't bother worrying about leaks when he designed Falling Water in western Pennsylvania. Okay, he was a womanizer, didn't provide enough headroom for his tall client because he himself was of short...

    Battery Drills

Yes. I've seen many of the best quality screws broken off by that torque. With enough practice, the guys I know can drive every one perfect. It's not for the amateur.

    Battery Drills

All the crews I work with on home contruction have both types. The impact drivers are much better for big screws on rough framing. The standard drill drivers are used for things like installing electrical devices. I imagine same holds true for other trades.

Shim sets. Edit: I've watched Kurtis at CEE use the metal ones so many times. I just forgot they were called step blocks. Have never seen them in wood.

School me on cutting board construction

I've never made my own cutting board but admire the craftsmanship some put into creating theirs. We prefer wood over any alternate material. Maple, or maple, or if you're in a bind, maple. Side grain; I've worked in a restaurant kitchen and had to clean the end grain butcher block every night...

    Meross Smart Garage Opener

A lot of HOAs nowadays require personal garages to be left open during the day (9-5). Soon, they'll ban garage doors altogether.

I have found a monster Quincy 350 air compressor with 120 gallon tank.. But it is in a really tough place to get to. No way for tractor, any ideas?

If there is room, tear down the shed, tilt the whole thing on its side, dissasemble, then off you go.

Help with fluorescent vs led bulb comparison...and general shop lighting.

I worked in architectural lighting design field for many years, through the advent of CFL, LED, and saw all the upcoming conversions. Most lighting fixtures are designed for specific lamp type. Conversions were subject to compromise from the start. It has gotten better, but the best solution is...

    my long road

I just completed editing for a friend a full set of drawings for three story commercial project where the original CAD files were unavailable (designer passed away and left password protected computer). We did have a 'final set' in PDF form. Took me 1 day to make the changes and reissue the set...

    my long road

If the drawing was created in AutoCAD, and 'printed' to PDF file, it should be at 100% of the paper size specified in the CAD file, 24"x36" for example. Reinserting into CAD as an Xref, will preserve that 100%. Saving as a jpeg image file or, God forbid, taking a picture of the PDF sheet will...
