Makita 18V vs 36V battery same Connector?

Alright, I've designed a 3D printable latch that will allow the battery door to lock closed over a full complement of 5S2P 21700 batteries. The model can be downloaded here: https://www.printables.com/model/994966-makita-xml08-21700-battery-door-latch If you don't have a printer...get one...

Makita 18V vs 36V battery same Connector?

I got them in bundle deals with tools. 2 came with my drill and impact driver, 4 with one of my circular saws, 4 with my mower, 4 with my leaf blower. That's conformal coating, it's there to protect the board from corrosion, but Makita lays it on extra thick. If you look at the board from...

Makita 18V vs 36V battery same Connector?

I have 14 5Ah Makita batteries that I rotated through mower duty, so I didn't see the degradation you experienced. I haven't noticed any increased energy consumption by the mower. Have you checked the condition of your blade and made sure the underside of your deck is clean? Batteries with...

Makita 18V vs 36V battery same Connector?

The gap is about 8mm, while the lip the lid closes around is 10mm tall. Extending the latch would provide almost essentially the same level of protection to the battery compartment without requiring any risky, permanent alteration of any part of the mower. I'm designing one now.

Makita 18V vs 36V battery same Connector?

    Battery dimensions are 134mm L x 82mm W x 70mm H (5.28in L x 3.23in W x 2.76in H). My mower is an XML08 as well. The 21700 batteries slot in, but I just discovered the lid won't latch with a pair in bank 2. 3D printing a latch with a second, longer catch shouldn't be too difficult. If you...

Makita 18V vs 36V battery same Connector?

I posted about solving this exact issue (with great success) right here: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/making-the-battery-makita-wont.536067 I ended up building 9Ah batteries with extremely high current output. I would be willing to bet, between the higher capacity and lower...

Why does Snap-On continuously make people rage?

I had to pick up my driver handle separately. My set was exactly like the one in the picture, but that story you told was eerily familiar. I still have all the original sockets, save the 1/4 deep 10mm. I lost that one doing an odd job. When I went to Sears to get a replacement, all the stock...

    voltage meter purchase.

It's a high-impedance input with proper protection. Again, it has been certified by Intertek, the lab that gives the ETL stamp. CATII is for energy levels found in household wiring. CATIII is for energy levels found in distribution panels. So with a CATIII 300V certification, the UT210e is...

    voltage meter purchase.

The UT210e is certified CATII 600V/CATIII 300V by Intertek. Also, since it's a clamp meter, there's no fuses or high current circuitry to worry about.

    Icon Ratchets?

I bought a 1/4 roto and it's going back. The extra teeth vs my Pittsburg roto are completely canceled out by excessive backlash. You made me open an Amazon Japan account...

I'd give rearview mirror adhesive a shot.

    Making the battery Makita won't.

Update: Today I put the new batteries to the test after letting the grass in my backyard grow for a few weeks. With the factory Makita batteries I would have to mow 1/3 the width of the mower on each pass when the grass is this long, and the batteries would be hot to the touch afterward...

Best bang for the buck digital calipers

Wait until they start PMing you about your "attitude" when you respond to their condescension with something other than "Thank you sir, may I have another?".

    red vs yellow, death match

AvE was the one that did this first. Although not quite like that.

    Making the battery Makita won't.

That was another thing I forgot to mention: I think Makita was planning on releasing 21700 cell batteries for the LXT line. These batteries fit just fine in my mower, and look at this: That thing was designed for 21700 batteries.

    Making the battery Makita won't.

If anything the latch is a little nicer than regular LXT batteries. They essentially copied the XGT design. The springs they use are strong; the batteries snap in with a very satisfying click.

    Making the battery Makita won't.

He's going to run into problems with those. He's putting in the highest capacity cells he can find. That will work just fine running an LED lamp, but power tool batteries need cells with a high current rating. There is a inverse relationship between current rating and capacity in most cells...
