Ive got mould forming in the ceiling.....why??

Since your building envelope isn't enclosed or heated, cool air will condense on the relatively warmer roof/ceiling structure, since the sun's heating it. If your 4-month-old roof isn't leaking (I'd hope not!), this problem may correct itself once you close in your walls. At that point, even if...

who has delayed their garage build due to economy?

I think I might hold off as well. If this is turning out to be just a so-so year for your business, why rush? I guess it's one thing if you have a storage unit full of tools and machinery and projects that you need to get moved in by your house, but if you can live without it, I think I might...

Fire House and Garage part II

Neat. All those triangles- that barn's going to be there for a while. If there's no need for plywood sheathing, what's done for tyvek / tar paper/ vapor barrier? Does it go straight up over the framing, or is there some other approach taken? Seems like if you just put it up over there it'd blow...

My temporary half of the garage.

Looks like a nice Z- I always liked those. Are they really as tough to work on as I hear? I gather from my reading (I was >< this close to buying one for a long time) that the turbos are completely buried under the rest of the engine, and that everything else is likewise jammed in the engine...

How do you keep your tools organized?

    :lol_hitti I don't. It's bad.

    SoCal Craftsman style... 45x24

Sweet- I like your doors. I have one from that same line waiting to be put in on the front of my house.

    12'x16' Storage Building Suggestions/Help

I'm curious to see what people say. I have had a shed on the mental to-do list for some time, and 12x16 is the size I've decided on. I had planned to get 8 or so of those concrete deck piers, use them as bases for 4x4 posts, and connect those up like legs onto a standard rim joist/ floor joist...

    My Shop/Apartment Build in Tennessee

Sweet- I was going to guess somewhere over near Lebanon, so I'm glad to see that I'm not TOO far off base. Looks like all those old farmsteads that you drive through on I-40. I went to high school in Cookeville, and mom and dad still live there, but Carthage is the old family home. Real pretty...

    Sump pump?

We'll see- I think the problem is bigger than drain tile. I could be wrong, but I think there is groundwater coming into the crawlspace from under the house, as opposed to from the walls. See, my house is built on a hill, and the garage is on the downhill side. Much as I'd love to dry the whole...

    Sump pump?

Probably an unusual question, I wouldn't think a lot of you guys have water issues since most of the garages we see are built on grade. Mine's cut into a hill, hence my trouble. I thought I had my water problem in my basement handled when I got new gutters installed this summer. Alas, I was...

Garage Windows -- Yes or No?

I am planning on putting some on mine. I have the rear door, it'll be a half-light door with internal blinds. I think the front door (faces the road) will be a french door, for aesthetics. One other window, or maybe not. Since it's hot as can be here half the year or more, I am thinking hard...

What did you get for X-Mas?

I got a cordless reciprocating saw to match my drill, and some $$$ to spend on tools.

Total newb question...motorcycle tires with air compressor

I have one of those, too. It's great. Be sure you get the model without the thumbtack in the hose- those ****. :lol_hitti

    My Garage Construction Story

Neat building- looks like it'll serve you for whatever you decide to do. Nature hates a vacuum, though, so I bet pretty soon you start collecting steam powered turn of the century agricultural machines or something. :p I work in technology, too, but on the purchasing end- the company I work for...

It's not exactly a garage but....

The "cute" comments are killing me. That's a really nice small outbuilding- you've surpassed the "shed" designation by quite a bit, I think. Kudos to you for the DIY effort, it looks like you paid somebody big money to do it.

Looking for ideas about garage and house design aesthetics

I think that's preferable. Master-on-main plans sometimes have the door to the bedroom opening directly into public/common space, and that's no good. With the study/office there, you get a buffer zone. Good idea, in my book.

Looking for ideas about garage and house design aesthetics

Wow- that's a good looking plan. Are you going to build a detached shop in addition to the attached 3-car? All the sudden I am turning green. When you get started, post pics- we love that here. :)

Sears In Store Inventory - what do you wish they had?

Same here. The Sears that I usually wind up at actually usually seems pretty well-stocked in the tool area, except for that. I haven't had any trouble getting what I want there, either- the older lady who works in the department can really help you if you halfway know what you're looking for. I...

    new tools today

Congratulations! That ratchet is awesome... Just kidding, of course. First time daddy? It's a fun ride. Take lots of pictures- they grow up quick.

Post a picture of your ratchets!!

I have the ever awesome Craftsman raised panel. One 1/2", TWO 3/8", and I think I have two 1/4" as well- people keep giving me small sets, so I have duplicate ratchets. Something I don't really get- for folks who have multiples in what's pretty much the same thing spread across several brands...
