    Manly Sledge

Bull, you're doing such a fine job setting up these group buys, such as the SK deal (seriously, thanks very much for your efforts!)....how 'bout talking to the folks at Council Tool to see if they'd do something similar? They have some beautiful axes....would love to have one, especially as...

Super-Exciting News for SK Day!! 9/23 and 9/24

Re: Super-Exciting News for SK Day!! I think it works the other way - sometimes, ideas left to fester for too long die a quiet death. People lose interest, forget about it, have second thoughts, whatever, but it seems in my experience that things done more quickly tend to work out better...

Super-Exciting News for SK Day!! 9/23 and 9/24

Re: Super-Exciting News for SK Day!! Definitely in for this - sooner is better, the Sept. 23 "Fall for SK" idea sounds good to me!

Highest and best use for a 4 inch thick steel table that is 3 x 4 foot and on a stand

Okay, first the important stuff - you ****. There, now that that is out of the way... At roughly 160/sq-ft, it's going to be around 1900 pounds. A forklift would obviously be the best and easiest way to move it, but I'm betting that's not an option in your garage (if it is....add a second...

    lincoln pipeliner sa200 question

Don't know how many folks here are experts on the SA200, but over on WeldingWeb.com there are lots of folks who know them inside-out. Might want to post your question over there... (apologies to any here who can help him - just not sure of the knowledge base on this subject!)

    30xp or 45?

I've got a Powermax 65 and just bought a 30-xp for a remote job. Given your parameters, the 30-xp will probably do MOST of what you want, but the 45 will do more, and do it better. Note that when run on 120v, the 30-xp will be somewhat limited - nice to have the capability to go mobile when...

Replace or repair garage door openers.?

What brand are the openers? The Liftmaster openers (they also made them for Sears) have a predicatable failure of the plastic gear. It's a relatively easy fix and the parts are only about $30....worth fixing if you have the ability.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

CL find , Wilton 350 - guy was asking $200 for it. I drove about 25 miles to get to him, asked casually if he had any wiggle room on the price. Fully expected to pay $200, or maybe $180 if he was in a good mood...he came back with $130! Good shape - some of the finish is showing its age, but...

How to tap a lot of holes on a large plate?

Me, I'd use my mag drill (you could rent or borrow one) and the combination drill/taps made by Champion. Done many holes with them and they are great...one step, self-feeds, couldn't be easier...

HF - Adjustable Steel Welding Table

I saw that last night at the store - I wouldn't want to work on it every day, but for $59 it appears that it would work well for the occasional quick job or off-site work.

    Kobalt 3-Piece Socket Trays $3.98

Haven't been available at any of our local stores for a while....I've been assuming that they were replaced by other products. Maybe I'll have to look again - I have all I need, but I had just told a few friends about them when I discovered they were nowhere to be found in the stores!

Planner vs Router for 3 piece crown moldings?

I call b.s. on that! Then again, to me that's part of the fun and challenge of it. Sure, you can always pay somebody to do it, but doing it yourself has it's own rewards, plus you can select the lumber you want. Mills near me will typically charge a $25 setup fee, the cost of the material...

Planner vs Router for 3 piece crown moldings?

My opinion.....routers are great, and one of the most versatile tools in the shop, but not well suited to making large moldings. When you say planer, I assume you're talking about one of the planer/moulders available from Jet, Grizzly, and others. They're not bad tools for that kind of thing...

    Can't understand the Festool Kool-Aid

Ah, where to start... The Kapex wouldn't have been included in the comparison test you noted, since it's a 10" saw, not 12" (and personally, I never have understood the need for a 12" miter saw) Secondly, being the best at dust collection "with the bag" doesn't really count either - the Kapex...
