5.4 Triton blew a plug. Confused on helicoil insert.

Ive used the tap/insert kit pictured on three different cylinders in my 5.4. Ive put over 100,000 miles on the first insert I did. I did them all myself including the rear passenger side. Make sure you have both valves closed as mentioned before. Id use grease on that tap too as it will...

    Breaker Bar buying option

Up until about a month ago, I would bash the HF 24" bar, now that I have one I take back anything bad I may have said. Actually, mine is the "Pro-Grade" version with the black oxide head but pretty similar. Ive given mine some beef and it takes it. I also keep a 15" Proto, which I also use...

    What's the best infrared thermometer?

We have Flukes at work for operators at our 4 tier hot press. I have an OEM brand from Autozone, $30. I have tested it against the fluke and they both read the exact same. Same as my coworkers Craftsman/extech.

    Tool Breakage Frequency

I break hex sockets most frequently, I pretty much wear them out first though. Next would be pick, then Id say punches and chisels. The snap on scrapper/chisels I go through pretty often, but Im not nice to those. I wear out a good tape measure every 6-12 months. Otherwise its pretty random...

    Industrial Mechanic tool list

May Pop, we all own our own multimeters, because that is how it has been, so the thought has never crossed my mind that it should be an issued item, but I will mention that to my superiors. The more I think about that, the more I agree. djb2, I think we might have to agree to disagree with...

    Proto vs. Armstrong box?

All the boxes listed are very nice. They are all models I would consider upgrading to someday. I notice the Proto has a higher load rating on drawers. What about a Kennedy Maintenance Pro or Benchmark series...

Always asking to borrow my tools...

I dont mind borrowing with my coworkers at all, they can use anything they want of mine, but they always ask and I do as well. I know I will get the tool back. I tell them to set it on top so I can put it where I want it, its never been a problem.

    Pin Detent or Friction Ring?

pshking, hex/allen wrenches are on the list. Lockout/tagout and ppe are provided. May Pop, the starting pay is in the mid teens. After three months they get a dollar bump. After a year its usually better than that if they are real good. You can make $20 per hour pretty quick if you are very...

Heavy tech, I will think about that more. I can think of specific tools like T15,T20,T25, and T47 star bits, 32mm deep well socket/breaker bar, 17mm wrench. Reptilezs, the company pays for power tools. We all get issued a cordless drill, some of us have our own air tools. I can make the...

are there common 12 point socket sizes?

12pt 12mm wrench on my F-150 universal joint. I broke my SK 1" 1/2 drive 12pt on a Liebherr hydraulic cylinder piston bolt. There was something around 20 bolts holding the piston on, the socket almost made it to the end, ended up having to order a impact 12pt to properly fit. These are the...
