    Alternative to MaxJax

My garage ceiling is exactly 117 inches from the floor. The 9000 lb lift shows a height of 109 inches. That is the shortest post height I have seen. Does anyone know of one less than 117"? I've never heard of National Auto Tools and I am really concerned about never hearing from National Auto...

    EZ Red?

I guess I'll buy a set if I'm sure they don't tear up the bolt heads.

    EZ Red?

Excuse me if this has been asked before but searching on common terms such as EZ Red don't seem to work too well. I saw a set of dual head flex ratchet wrenches. It seems they have a universal spline. It says they fit almost everything, Torx®, Square, 6 Point 50% Rounded, 12 Point, 6 Point...

Anyone have their air compressor "outside" of the garage?

I must be insane. I put my IR 5hp in the basement. I was worried about running it after it sat in below freezing or even below zero. Noise isn't a problem because I'm in the garage when it runs. My wife on the other hand...oh she complains about anything. No, it wasn't easy getting it down...

    Worth Fixing?

I have an IR SS5L5 (not the SS4L5 they have now) and I paid $700.00 for it at a Tractor Supply 2 years ago Christmas. Display model, great deal..yada..yada...yada... I think yours is a better compressor than mine. If the tank and compressor are good...and they probably are...I would likely put...

HF Blast Cabinet over modification cost?

You're right...I guess I was looking at the Northern Tools for $400.00 The other thing that I considered is that I can drive to TP Tools in about 2 hours. Likely more expensive than shipping but sometimes they have scratch and dent sales. Plus it's just a fun place to be a guy in.

HF Blast Cabinet over modification cost?

I see I can get the HF blast cabinet for $209-20%=$168.00. Quite a deal. I know I'll upgrade to the TP Tools gun for $85.00 http://www.tptools.com/Product.aspx?display_id=2320 Then I have to add a new light or two. Then I'll mess with the glass. Not that I mind doing this but at what point...

    H.F. sand blast cabinet.

Skyking: Least expensive I've seen for the HF blast cabinet was $199.00. Do you know where I can get a coupon for the $179.00 you paid?

Ever start losing interest in finishing the garage?

This all makes me a bit chicken to start! I am all enthused about putting up a 36'x36'14' home shop with a nice lift. I'm leaning toward 64 Metals but it seems no matter what company I look at there is a review saying they're unhappy and ready to sue...even Morton, which I ruled out due to the...

    64 Metals 40'x64'x10',4" Build

That's one reason closed cell spray foam is so attractive. It's a vapor barrier, seals everything up tight, makes it quieter as well as stronger. However, it seems you could build a second shop for the cost of spraying.

    64 Metals 40'x64'x10',4" Build

This is a great diary. It's really helping me with my decisions. I'm likely going with 64 Metals as well. They have a sale going on till 2/16-13 for 5% off or free upgrade to Perma-Columns. I'm going 36'Lx36'Wx14'H, steel trusses, Perma-columns and 6" 4'x4' 3000 PSI concrete under the car...

    prep floor for lift?

The quote was a just a phone quote based on size. The area is very flat and drains like crazy. When you do a percolation test....you can never fill a hole with water. I think if I dug down I could open a gravel pit. The problem I'm going to have is access with a cement truck. There is no way...

    prep floor for lift?

Wow! That's less than half what I was quited for 36'x36'x6". No apron either....

to drain or not to drain

Man I am glad I'm reading all of this. I didn't think too much about a drain until venturesomerite wrote about the freakin' snow melt. What a mess that is! It looks like I'm going to have to figure a drain or two in my 36'x36' slab.

    prep floor for lift?

I just saw on the Rotary lift site that if the floor doesn't meet the 3000 PSI 5" requirement for the 2 post lift....they want you to put a 4'x4', 6" 3000 PSI pad under each post. Going 4'x4'x6" under the posts and 4" for the rest of the 36'x36' slab should save me quite a bit. 64 Metals is...

    prep floor for lift?

Thanks for the reply! That reads like sound advice. I guess I should ask some lift makers how big an area I need to be thicker.

    prep floor for lift?

So I'm going to put up a 64 Metals building (steel trusses, Perma-columns). It seems that a 6" floor is the way to go to support a 2 post lift. I'm wondering if I can save a few bucks by only having 6 inches (or more) in the lift area and 4" everywhere else. Also...Can you prep the pad for...

64 Metals is now owned by Morton?

I'm in SW Ohio and looking to put up a new garage and looked at 64 Metals and will look at Morton...and some others if I can figure out whom. While talking to 64 Metals they told me about a year ago they were acquired by Morton. That's something I'd not heard before. I guess that's a good...

    Got a Northern Tool 4" grinder/cutoff

That's pretty much it. Sometimes you get in a position that the sparks are flying in a direction that you'd rather they didn't.

    Got a Northern Tool 4" grinder/cutoff

I haven't had a chance to try it yet but this thing looks surprisingly well made. It has a really nice feature that I wanted...it's reversible. I'll let you all know how it works when I attack a some auto sheet metal.
