Project Farm tests flex-head ratchets (and one roto-head)

You can progressively apply torque way more smoothly with a long breaker bar than a cheater pipe. Less violence and drama when the bolt breaks free. Also no risk to ratcheting mechanisms.

    Is going brushless worth it?

Power always matters, I'm reaching for power tools to do what would be difficult or laborious by hand and I want it as easy and fast as possible.

    Eclectic Ratcheting Wrench Set

I'd sleep around with a Snap-on in the 13mm slot. Also 8mm is pretty useful at times, I'd rather have an 8mm than 9mm honestly.

Thinking about getting an electric impact for the home shop

Toolguyd has just the article for you: https://toolguyd.com/best-cordless-power-tool-brand/ Personally I use Milwaukee M12 and M18. Their FUEL line of tools are generally quite good, especially the impacts. My biggest complaint is I seem to be able to overheat the M12 stuff during prolonged...

    Show your new tool arrivals

I finally encountered some frozen phillips head screws that wouldn't be budged by my Vessel Megadora, they just wanted to strip out. I had to resort to additional firepower: The Impacta worked like a charm, they are so very worth it.

    Icon vs Tekton combination wrenches

I just can't wrap my head around a guy who can actually wear out a wrench to the point of warranty and is also really concerned about besterest value mid tier Taiwan stuff. Warranty is a fluff argument on combo wrenches.

    Icon vs Tekton combination wrenches

They're more similar than they're different. Imo, Icon has nicer chrome, but it's only a good deal when it's 20% off. If you're not a pro, they will both outlast you. My last wrench purchase was a bunch of random USA brands from Cripe Distributing for below Taiwan prices, I really like the...

Tool Brands you cannot stand . . .

I'm surprised at all the butthurt about Icon considering they're the modern equivalent of Craftsman USA in terms of quality and availability. The only tool brands I can't stand are the no-name pot metal garbage import tools of old, because they would immediately break, twist, snap, round off...

Digital tire pressure gauge that doesn't s@&k?

I have an Accutire digital gauge and it's good for a quick read, never had any problems with it. These days I find myself just hooking up the M18 Inflator to every tire for the effortless mechanical consistency but there have been times when I just wanted to know the pressure.

    12pt vs Spline

I'm a crappy mechanic and I take everything apart five times before it works so I gotta get 12pt otherwise it's gonna look like a beaver works on my garbage.

What would everyone choose for a pry bar set if you were to buy new?

Honestly my Pittsburgh pry bars have taken everything I've thrown at them and they were very cheap. Way better than not having any. No striker cap but I tend to use a chisel for that sort of thing because it's shorter.

Tools that you thought were stupid to buy and now can’t live without.

Short profile combo wrenches. Seems stupid to have less torque on a fastener but it's all about having the access you need without cutting a wrench in half.

Grizzly 500 lb. hydraulic table lift

I'd try contacting Grizzly customer service and see if they can sell you a kit. They're pretty proud of their parts department so there's a chance they know exactly what you need.

    Multi Process or Dedicated TIG?

I would keep the Hobart because that's a nice little unit, and go with a dedicated TIG. That way if a part goes down on one machine, it doesn't take out the other.

    Craftsman OVERDRIVE

Give money to SBD after mismanaging Craftsman USA to death again? Hard pass.

Tools you thought you'd love and just don't

The flex head ratchet is a must have for me and it's bailed me out countless times. Personally I can't stand the old school u-joint socket adapters. They flop around and don't turn nicely, they just never seem to do what I want. They have never ended up being a solution for me for anything and...

This fershlugginer drill index box is vexing me.

It loosens up after 10+ uses. I'd try jamming them all in and out a buncha times. Still snugger than it needs to be, honestly.

Hand tools vs impact tools: which are better at protecting fasteners?

I went to loosen an exhaust manifold bolt by hand, and my buddy said an impact would be easier on the fastener. I ended up bumping it loose with my palm on the ratchet and it didn't turn out to be a struggler, but it did make me think about which approach is best and honestly I'm not sure...

    Wife tool set up’s

Nah, she typically reaches for something from the household set, or I'll just go get what she needs from the garage since I know where it is.
