    Low Cost MIG Welder

It was Craigslist for me, I'll admit I was very fortunate and I didn't even spend long searching for a local deal less than 30 minutes away. 100% agree 9/10 used machines aren't worth anybody's time, but you only need that 1. Everybody talks about their awesome Craftsman drill presses they...

    Low Cost MIG Welder

Well, if you have such an aversion to effort in order to land a good deal, I guess your Chinese welder might still work after it's dropkicked off a freight truck. Used market does have a risk factor, judgement-incapable persons be warned. For what it's worth, I'd also be buying used Snap-on...

    Low Cost MIG Welder

I sure do. But I have American made tools too. My Miller is one of them. I'm not saying the import stuff is bad, I'm saying the used market is a viable alternative and you might be able to score a higher quality machine for the same money.

    Low Cost MIG Welder

Don't need knowledge of imports if you buy a used Miller. Just sayin.

Crowfoot + Ratchet / Breaker bar versus Actual Wrench?

Keep both, limit storage of other aspects in life but never tools

    Roloc discs, best deal?

I started using 2" flapdiscs off ebay after I was disappointed with how long those type of abrasive discs last. I paid $15 for 10 with an arbor, you can get a better deal if you don't need the arbor but mine always get beat up after a while. Ebay links never last so here are example search...

Torque wrench stored with a few pounds set... chances it's usable?

It's fine. As mentioned, it's supposed to be returned to the minimum torque spec.

    Minimum unit of power washer

I went with the cheapest Ryobi corded pressure washer at Home Depot, the 1800 psi one, and I'm confident it would do your job. I wanted the corded model because I use it for 30-90 minutes at a time and I don't need the portability since I'm hooking it up to the hose anyway. I'm skeptical of the...

    Need Some Drill/Driver Advice

Note that an impact driver can also use drill bits as long as they have a hex shank, however they will be a little wobbly because the quick release mechanism will never be as tight as a 3 jaw chuck.

    Need Some Drill/Driver Advice

+1 on having both, they excel at different things. I use my impact driver with everything I can get a hex shaft for including plastic bristle brushes and adapters to drive impact sockets. For me, the drill is for precision and control, and the impact driver is about violence and torque. Out of...

Just Retired - welding is on the list

You should probably start by figuring out what the max thickness of metal you want to weld is, because that will determine the size of machine you need. 120v MIG can go up to 3/16" plate steel but you'll be preheating and pushing it hard. Any bigger than that or if you're doing a lot of thicker...

    Icon Combination Wrenches

I have Icon shorty combos, they're good. The chrome was nice and consistent. If you're rarely going to use them, the Pittsburgh are also fine. My travel set is Pittsburgh and they've been doubled up and hammered on in rusty junkyard scenarios. I'm not saying they survived the abuse flawlessly...

Dedicated Screwdrivers Vs Bit Screwdrivers Vs 6 in 1: Torque Abilities

I've got a 6 in 1 in the living room, one bit driver in the tool cart with a full array of bits for that one time you encounter a Robertson down here in the states and whatnot, and also a selection of dedicated screwdrivers in Phillips and regular on the cart and the shop wall. The feel is the...

Most useful speciality tools for non-pros?

Boogerman pretty much nailed it. I didn't buy all that stuff at the same time but I ended up with that list and yes I needed all of it. I'd make sure the ball peen is also a deadblow. One of your pliers should be vice grips. Work lights with hooks and magnets are nice, sometimes you need a...

    Show your new tool arrivals

I was real tired of reaching for the adjustable wrench every time I needed something bigger than 19mm / 7/8", but them large wrenches can get pricey fast. For the same price as an Icon 20-24mm set, I was able to get all this mostly USA made stuff shipped to my door from Cripe Distributing...

    The Milwaukee addiction thread! :)

The M12 dremel is actually faster; Milwaukee assumes you're using 2" accessories with the die grinder. The die grinder has a squeeze trigger instead of an on off switch so you can't hold it like a big pencil. It costs twice as much. You have to use an adapter for 1/8" collet dremel stuff. The...

Stirring up a hornets nest: brand loyalty, or free for all?

Yep, M12 and M18 only. I want one charger, and I want every battery purchase to increase my available energy pool across the board. I like the power and capability of the Fuel stuff, and the only thing Milwaukee doesn't make that I want right now is an M18 mini fridge.

    The Milwaukee addiction thread! :)

I'm skeptical that they would, as it would pretty much be a M12 straight die grinder with a 1/8" collet. 1/4" to 1/8" collet adapters exist so technically you can make the uber dremel if so desired. I have the M12 dremel, it's... adequate for the scope of what a dremel should be used for. But...

    Torch For Rusty Bolts

Nothing is forbidden until you get caught. Buy it, don't tell anybody about it, store it discretely and properly. I have done many breaches of contracts on apartment balconies. Spray painting, torches, charcoal grills, throwing Christmas trees off the third floor, you name it.

Do Tool Brand Names impact your purchasing decisions?

I don't really care much about brand name itself since no one company makes the best everything. Advance Auto once ran a killer deal on GW reversible ratcheting wrenches, but the package I received was missing a wrench. The only option was to return the entire package, and they didn't have a...
