Sandblast cabinet build, am I making a mistake?

Chinesium is many times more durable than wood in this application. Depending on the media used and how often you use it/how often you want to rebuild it this may not be a concern. Would cutting the hopper down to a more desirable size be practical?

    Mobile tool truck for contracting

Awesome. I knew a guy who did the same thing with a big old RV after he semi-retired. He would do a couple of big jobs/year. Drive the RV up and park it on site until he was finished. Miter station, table saw, you name it, he had it all permanently mounted in there. The slide outs gave plenty of...

Can my trusses support a ceiling?

Donuts and coffee says those trusses were built on site. Can't inspect well enough from the pictures to pass judgement, but they have 40+ years of proof testing. If they were mine, I wouldn't worry about a steel liner ceiling.

Have Drawings, anyone want to review them and share their feedback?

There's nothing wrong with 2x12 rafters, they just caught my eye because that's an uncommon spec. Could be for snow load, could be to support the dormers, although if the latter I would expect localized reinforcement rather than over the entire roof. Shrinking them down might save you a few...

Have Drawings, anyone want to review them and share their feedback?

#5 rebar on 12" centers in your slab seems...excessive. The depth of your stair treads is a) uncomfortably shallow and b) won't meet code in many areas if that's a concern for you. I don't see any rebar in the stem walls. 2x12 rafters?

    Hanging hardtop from garage ceiling

Like Bill said, you're going to end up with four separate 75lb point loads with each pair of 2 on a separate framing member. We don't know the dimensions of the top, but from the picture let's assume the final attachment points end up spread over roughly a 3' x 5' area, so 15 square feet which...

Ideas for adding garage onto a raised ranch

You need a high(er) ceiling with a lift. Look at what will work for your intended uses. If you want to stand up and work under the car, the minimum ceiling height is your height plus the height of the car. 10' would probably be the bare minimum for a Corvette. A pickup would require more. Based...

    Building a work bench

Does it need to clearspan the 7' length? You'll get a massive increase in stiffness with a center support.

    Light overhead lifting options

A pair of gantry cranes will be the easiest. With a pair, you can span them with one or more separate beams and then you have a mobile bridge crane. If you disassemble when they're not in use they don't take up much space. If you have access to appropriate scrap material and confidence in your...

    Battery powered lawn mower

I have used a Kobalt 80v (rebadged Greenworks) for several years with zero complaints. Menards 80v line is rebadged Greenworks, too. The 40v line can meet your price point, but not the 80v. I have no experience with the 40v line. On the 80v line, mowing and mulching performance are excellent...

Pumping oil out of 5 gallon oil drain tank?

The current version on the HF website says it is okay with oil, but I suspect that is heavily dependent on viscosity. Reviews on the M18 transfer pump indicate it works great with all kinds of oils/hydraulic fluids.

    Widening a Door Frame

That sounds like a ton of easily avoided and unnecessary work. I would use a wood door and adjust it as needed with a planer and belt sander.

    Leaky threaded pipe fittings

If the threads aren't visibly deformed - i.e. jagged, torn, etc. - and they're not sealing, you're probably not using enough thread sealer and not tightening the joint enough. NPT threads are basically a compression seal. If you're using that spider web thin PTFE tape you can easily use a dozen...

    roof sheathing

1/2" CDX will be fine with 16" spacing. Sure, 5/8" is "better", but you're not really getting the benefit out of how much better it is at that spacing. I have seen the arguments that OSB is stronger, but am unmoved. I've seen mother nature turn too much OSB into sawdust without the use of a saw.

    Hanging an 1950's screen door?

Looks like cmandp has the correct type of hinge identified. The give away is how far the screws are inset from the side. It looks like your original ones were squared off on the face. I searched briefly without finding any that matched that style. A more exhaustive effort may yield a match.
