    Copper Backing Bars

Put a short piece of 1/2" copper pipe inside a short piece of 3/4" then as Sumboodle said, hammer it flat. Take your time and make sure there are no air gaps between the layers of copper or you won't get the heat transfer you want.

    Roof Leak

I tried patching using "Gardner Wet-R-Dri". Either it didn't work or I missed the spot of the leak, but the roof is still leaking. The day I applied it, it was about 30*F, and the stuff in the gallon can was really thick. This weekend promises to in the low 50's and sunny (who would...

    Dedicated laundry circuit question

Electrical question… Mrs. Imagineer has a new cordless sweeper and needs a convenient spot to store and charge it. In all of Casa-de-Imagineer, the only spot that makes sense is in the laundry room. Whereas there is a duplex outlet on the wall opposite where the sweeper hanger will go, there...

Housing for a 120V AC to 24V DC power supply?

Probably not what you had in mind . . . but the plastic case mounted to the OSB is a leftover from a Harbor Freight hardware pack. It holds a 24dvc power supply to run the landscape valves for draining the Franzinator. It gets 110vac from 1 leg of the 220v to the compressor.

    Radial arm or table saw.

I have both, and they both serve their purpose. If you can afford the shop space, a radial arm saw can come in handy.

What do you use for CAD?

Am I the only old-school AutoCAD user? Been using AutoCAD since 1990 and Autodesk Inventor since about 1999. If forced, I can manage in SolidWorks, but only when necessary.

    Roof Leak

Not that I should be surprised, but I found a small leak in the (at least 30 year old) asphalt shingle roof on my pole barn. I've known for years the roof is in bad shape and needs replaced. When we moved to this property in 1999, it was already looked bad, but it's not leaked and thus not...

Looking for feedback on what to salvage from my home (if anything) before demolition

I'd go after all the wall studs, flooring and non-damaged wood doors. A former co-worker demo'd part of his turn-of-the-century farmhouse and offered me the wall studs. Best I could tell, they were Sassafras, full 4" x 2". I ended up making a huge Lincoln Log set for my son from most of it.

    ANOTHER Freehand Routed Sign

Impressive. Any tips or tricks for keeping the router from wanting to migrate on it's own? Do you use anything special for the base of the router?

Best Shop Vac model ever made?

Funny this topic came up. Being gift giving season, Mrs. Imagineer asked if I needed anything for the workshop, like a new shop-vac. She's witnessed me ranting over, or kicking around my circa 1995 Craftsman unit. Mine looks like this model... It's small, loud, top heavy and the...

Generally speaking, what kind of project results are you after?

Every one of my projects start with evaluating value. Not in terms of cost, but the value the completed project will provide. Note, 99.9% of my "projects" are for my home/workshop/yard use. Will it get a lot of use? Will it expand capabilities (i.e., new tools), save time or make a...

Ever loose a Nut or Bolt while working on your car?

In the middle of a carburetor rebuild on the '72 MG, I accidentally dropped a small circlip into the intake manifold. It would not have been a big deal to pull the aluminum manifold, but I figured I'd first try using a magnet to retrieve it.. I used heat-shrink tube to hold a small...

This Old House, Heath installs a generator transfer panel , has the meter pulled?

When I installed my 24kW Generac last year, the bottom of the meter box was partially rusted out, and the weathertight fitting (if that's what it's called) had pulled out of the box. The inspector said all I needed to do was make a new floor plate for the box that would provide something...

What do you woodworkers think of this

I have the big brother to that one: https://www.harborfreight.com/6-in-x-48-in-belt-and-9-in-disc-sander-59220.html Purchased in 2002 or 2003 and it's still running. My only gripe is it's not that powerful. It tends to slow down easily.

Stupid question du jour: How high should a drill press be?

Here's a segment of a drawing of the rolling table I made for my drill press. I made this in 2003 and it's still in use. I've since put larger (4") casters on it.

Harbor Freight Motorcycle Lift Hydraulic Pump Leak - Parts Needed - Ideas?

Took apart the relief valve that was leaking, measured the ball bearing and matched it to one available from McMaster-Carr. It still leaked after replacing the ball and I figured it was either the seat in the pump casting or part 30A. I carefully mounted the pump on a milling machine...

Harbor Freight Motorcycle Lift Hydraulic Pump Leak - Parts Needed - Ideas?

Measure the part you need and match it to one from McMaster-Carr. I have the same lift table and the pump on mine leaked something terrible.
