Eastwood or HF or other drum sander/surface conditioner?

I too have the HF version and am pleased with it so far. I've only used it on aluminum but it worked well. The rougher surface drums seem to work better. Also, I found that adding pressure not only didn't help, it caused the HF drums to heat up and deposit (I assume) adhesive on the...

If you have to watch the weather, you need more garage space..

Similar problem...anytime I want to work on a larger project, or use my table saw, I have to back the MG Midget outside. It too has seen little rain in it's life, but I'll admit I've been lax a few times and the lil' Brit got soaked. If a larger workspace is not in the plan, focus on...

Garage door safety keeps stopping the door for no reason

Are the IR emitter & receiver attached to the door track? At my 1st house, the electronics were attached to the door track and on occasion (especially if it was windy outside) as the door closed, one or the other track would twist a tiny bit (like a 1/16"), but it was enough to throw off the...

Treehouse roof - sealing to tree?

Some time in the late 70's, I saw where a through-roof style treehouse was weather proofed by using a thatched roof type design. The guy who built it placed the 1st course of reeds at a steep angle spanning close to the roof opening and resting on the tree trunk. He used sisal twine to hold...

    Standby generator for whole house

Probably a non-issue, but keep in mind that you'll get less wattage from a generator running natural gas than the same generator on propane. My recently install Generac 24,000 watt unit is only rated for 21,000 when running on natural gas.

    Used Stand By Generators

Spot on. I was having trouble getting my new generator to connect to my home WIFI and all calls to Generac ended up on endless hold.

    Used Stand By Generators

Good point. This is why I ended up doing the install mostly by myself. Whereas there are two local contractors that are Generac installers, because I purchased my generator elsewhere, neither contractor would consider doing the installation. I did find an electrician willing to quote...

    Milwaukee M18

Thanks for all the good advice, but like my thinning hair . . . I went gray. After compiling the numbers for red, yellow and blue, as to what it would cost to replace my Porter Cable ensemble, for me the smarter money was to get a PC 'starter kit' with a drill and 1/4" impact driver (both...

    Used Stand By Generators

Peace of mind is worth the investment . . . buy a new one. Last year I installed a new Generac 24kW. I bought it from Menards and did most of the install myself. I had a local plumber do the natural gas line. After the 11% rebate from Menards, the generator installed cost me about...

Air compressor conundrum. 120 vs 240v, vertical vs horizontal. Bead blaster wants 12cfm

My Husky 60gal, 5hp, vert, can't keep up with my medial blast cabinet. For quick, intermittent projects it's ok, but for continuous use it doesn't keep up.

    Milwaukee M18

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's time to upgrade. There's a hidden agenda in my quest to replace the impact driver . . . I absolutely hate the keyless chuck on the Porter Cable 20v drill. Because it loosens in use, it's f-ed up far too many drill bit shanks (creates a small burr that...

    Milwaukee M18

I already have a (older) Milwaukee cordless hammer drill, I believe it's a 14.4v. It's really old and the battery isn't the best, but it was free. Found on the side of the road; a well used drill, charger and 1 battery in a badly scuffed case. I assumed it had fallen out of a truck.

    Milwaukee M18

For my projects, the 1/4" impact is invaluable for driving longer lumber screws, especially the older Philips head ones. When trying to drive Philips head screws with a standard cordless drill, the bit tends to walk out of the screw head and strip out. When using a 1/4" impact, the...

    Milwaukee M18

Talk me into or out of a Milwaukee M18 Fuel Impact Driver and Drill. My 14-year-old Porter Cable 20v impact finally expired in a small, anticlimactic puff of blue smoke so I’m going to pry some cash from my miserly grip and buy a new cordless impact. I’m looking at a kit that has the ¼”...

To label, or not to label (toolbox drawers)

I prefer to label the toolbox drawers. Nothing fancy, just use a cheap Brother P-touch label maker.

Did the same thing on a DeWalt drill index...solved the problem.

    Motorcycle scissor jack

I wanted a scissor lift to lift the bike by the frame but was too cheap to buy one, so I made my own. I don't have any pics of the jack itself, but here it's under my 1st bike.

Wire welder what are you using

A very old Lincoln Weld-Pak 155 (w/ gas kit, set up for steel) and a slightly less old Lincoln Pro-Mig 175 with a SG-100 spool gun (set up for aluminum). With the exception of the spool gun, everything has worked fine for the past 15 or so years. The SG-100 spool gun required a lot of...

    Battery disconnect switch

I saw that too, but I'm thinking the rating of the contacts is based on watts, then my 1800 watt system is well below their 11.2k watts (32vdc x 350A cont).
