What are Deep Sockets For? I've Never Needed One

I remember back in the 80s, not an 18mm in my or Dad's sets. Then came the need to pull a Ford Pickup bed. All 18mm. Stop work and go buy a couple. Then a few years ago, needed to pull the front seats for a Mopar minivan. Go buy a 20mm deep socket cause that was skipped in my deep set...

    Small engine mechanic question

Re: the red above. One of the most used 'handles' for my 1/4" set is a screwdriver type handle with a 1/4'sq male drive end and 1/4" female in the handle end. Don't recall the maker, but it is old and handy as heck. I also have one that folds, so you can break an nut/bolt loose with it...

    Push Notifications

I get random requests from the board to allow these. I always answer yes, and get an acknowledgement. But, it seems to forget. Doesn't do it everytime I log on, I don't think, but just sometimes. Like 2-3 times today. Not a biggie but curious.

Parking car in side yard ideas

If you must park it there, I'd recommend a plastic sheet covering the grass where it will be parked. Edge with landscape timbers and lay pavers or rock on the plastic. Stop the moisture totally from the ground. Is a portable tent style thing allowed? Like Harbor Freight's portable garage?

    Is this idea code compliant?

I know the theory and math, but can tell you with certainty that a solid ground contact to the battery negative about ones elbow and a solid contact with the positive with the hand of the same arm hurts. Muscle contraction that felt like it could break bone! edit: If you're wondering...

What are your thoughts on options for leveling first course of siding?

Find the TOH episode where Tom Silva shows using a story pole. If I can explain it, mark the pole with the actual exposure measurement of each course. The lean the pole so that the courses align best with windows. Now use the new, lower height exposures to mark the courses. And, I just...

    Ingersoll Rand compressor motor

IME the 5hp 56 frame motors are not long lived. I believe they are designed for intermittent duty and on small portable compressors work OK, for a while. I wouldn't want one if using my compressor for driving air tools like sanders, grinders, etc. Lots of compressors have 5hp on the tank...

    Ingersoll Rand compressor motor

I can see the HP, 5 but not the frame info. That is critical to get a good fit.

    Check valve for compressor

Last time I needed one, I searched several local stores and finally remember Grainger. They have a big selection in stock and reasonably priced. I would use one at least the same size as the delivery tube/pipe or one size larger with a reducer.

Screws or pneumatic nails for building soffit on new garage?

OK, last pic answers one question, your ' half a two x four' is a 2x2. I've always used 1x4 with the lookouts flush with the bottom. Much easier to find long 1x4s than good 2x2s. Most 2x4s has knots that will cause the longer boards to break when handling after ripped. If buying a tool...

Screws or pneumatic nails for building soffit on new garage?

I'm still confused about what exactly you are adding. 1/2 a 2x4? and the arrow points to the area above the soffit. Is there a fascia backer on the rafter tails that you will be fastening to? Or how will the outer end be secured? New board added or existing? I've always use a 1x at the...

    220v wiring, right or wrong?

    I never use that word.

    GFIC motors and welders

Lots of older electric hand tools will trip a good GFCI. Leakage in the older windings is likely the culprit. I've had some that caused a good tingle under some circumstances. I'm sure those would had tripped a GFCI. But, I stopped using them before GFCIs invaded my shop.

    220v wiring, right or wrong?

I'm surprised no one has asked for a pick of the receptacle front. Not all 3 wire are wired the same. Old dryer had a neutral, not ground. What did he install? One of the current 3 wire standard or one he had on the truck?

    Devilbiss airless paint sprayer

The ball bearing is probably part of a check valve. Really common for people to fail to clear the paint and it checks stick. That allows paint to just move in and out past the same valve.

    Tornados, trees and Chainsaws UPDATE

Once all the limbs are removed, double-cuts are safe on the trunk alone since all the overhanging leverage and pinch points are gone.

    Tornados, trees and Chainsaws UPDATE

I just have an aversion to borrowing power tools of any kind. Only once in the last 20-30 years have I done so. Power Pruner brand pruning saw. Limb took an unexpected bounce of another limb and bent the extension shaft. Cost me almost 500 bucks in parts.

    Tornados, trees and Chainsaws UPDATE

I've actually used both a two and one man crosscut, years ago. Distant memory and it will remain so!

More experience than I really wanted. Yep, trees felled one atop the other are tricky, the wrong cut at the wrong time can roll an entire tree top in a flash.

    Tornados, trees and Chainsaws UPDATE

Something other that a mandated minimum by the factory and no internet availability. I just don't care for their business model.
