I think they were really to replace the wooden plow planes, I don't think anything can replace a real wooden molding plane except a router/shaper and even then, you'll get machine marks.

Looks like I'm missing the front small depth stop. Those are actually not too hard to find. The irons, box, and cam stop seem like they're correct for a type 7-8. It's also cool that the 1/8 groove cutter isn't broken at the adjuster hole. Those usually snap since there's so little metal there.

On page 45 of the thread we have to have at least one Stanley 45. I scored this at a big tool auction in Amish country last week, I already have a 45, but this one was "complete." The box looks like it's been through the war (both actually), and it's missing instructions and the little envelope...

buying autel scanners from overseas will lock ?

According to Autel North America the MK808BT Pro is not available in this market so it looks like your only choice is buying from an international dealer.

The 78 is kind of plebeian but from a woodworking perspective, it's a super star. It has a nicker and with the later thumb depth adjuster, it's very nearly the perfect wood machine. It will clean up tenons, it can act as a bull nose, it can cut rabbets in end grain. From a function standpoint...

He can only show a small sample of what he has in inventory (since these are 100 year old tools, there's no automatic inventory system) but his hoard is massive and he specializes in stanley. I typically go through Facebook but he probably answers through his website as well.

I would check with https://just-plane-fun.myshopify.com/ I've bought several things from him and he is usually about 1/2 the price of ebay and charges you the actual shipping. Just a heads up though, I haggle (always) and I don't think I've gotten him to move a dollar lol.

This one does have an adjustable mouth. The prestons that @ararat mentioned don't and consequently, though older and prettier, they're a little cheaper. I have the mouth choked up, but I'm going to put a factory bevel on it and see if I can get it to work better that way. My other adjustable...

New (to me) Bell Systems Stanley 2101A and a 1971 Irwin auger bit set (made in Wilmigton Ohio). It looks like only one of the drills was used and only once. If you've ever gone through bins of auger bits looking for the ones with clean spurs, it's a treat to have a set in this kind of condition.

Took a risk on the ugliest Record 073 on eBay and it's cleaning up nice. I've wanted one forever, but now that I've used it, it feels comically oversized and at least 2 pounds heavier than it needs to be. It is pretty and it takes micron thick shavings with the grain but cross grain, I'm not...

    Chisel sharpening recommendations

All I can suggest is what I use. DMT Diasharp plates. I have all 4 grits, but I primarily use the extra coarse and the extra fine. From there, I use a Naniwa 10,000 "super stone" which leaves a mirror finish. I use a cheap eclipse blade guide with a bronze wheel, I need to upgrade that probably...

2025 Garage Sale Thread (14th Annual)

Finally 2025 pays dividends! $11 for a Leigh D4 dovetail jig, I’ve wanted this 12” guy forever to replace my porter cable.and a random box of random for $6: of note is the marples cranked neck chisel and a Yankee no 50 which I didn’t even know existed. It has a 3 jaw chuck which is cool though...

Well, I'm finally out of the dark ages! Bonus: I didn't realize it also did UV for leak detection dyes. There are lots of good lights out there and brighter lights, but these are really built like brick outhouses. I'm of an age that this will hopefully be my last or second to last worklight. I...

Speaking of hillbilly hamfist, look at this monstrosity! (I put the Woodyah "tote turner" on my 5 1/2). For us dirtballs who can't dig up a genuine shooting plane, this is a pretty good alternative. If I had a beef, it's that unlike a "hot dog" you aren't putting much force toward the work, so...

Has anyone done a video tour of your collection? There is a youtube channel (Batcave Creations) that has done some really great tours but you have to have one of the most thorough stanley collections on the planet. I hope it ends up in a museum at some point, because it'd be a shame to have any...

that's generally my approach. Sadly, the planes that folks sell have to get slicked up unless it's a really high end plane. Ebay buyers typically don't appreciate the brown/black oxides. Luckily, a warm patina equals pretty nice savings when you're looking for something specific but common.

    Fluid Film permanently banned!

I've always wondered why the smell transports me back to hugging my great grandmother. She and the old house smelled like lanolin like crazy. I've always loved the smell and the wave of nostalgia that washes over me every time I use Fluid Film.

2025 Garage Sale Thread (14th Annual)

Not a "you ****" price, but the deals are getting tough out here with everyone spending their tax refunds. I had to bid up to $80 for this early Stanley 10 1/2 but the bonus plane was a Miller Falls made Craftsman 4CBB in the deal (not valuable but a great running plane). I apologize in advance...

What are your top 3 grail tools you got on your wish list if you win the lottery

Full Set of Lie Nielsen planes. I mean full. Even the 10 1/4 and the 51. It'd have to be a big lottery win though

The weight is definitely the appeal to me. I also put a very minute camber on it so it's also nice to have such a wide iron. If you have an early US version (type 15 or earlier) they're a little lighter and much higher quality than my english version.
