Generator won't start, back fires instead. Valves?

BTW, the fumes off burning brake cleaner (the flammable one) are particularly dangerous and can cause some serious health issues very quickly. Given a choice, carb spray is a much safer alternative.

Generator won't start, back fires instead. Valves?

Briggs used to use a shear key on the flywheel. They would split sometimes and timing would be off a lot. No start, backfires, etc.

    Masking parts for vibratory tumbling.

A dab of RTV would probably suffice as well. Not terrible to remove afterwards. Just a thought

    hacksaws?

Very nice. I hand cut an old work hardened rail once with a hacksaw. It was quite the workout.

Replacing tool handles Arbor Press/Large Vise

I didn't do the tooth removal on mine, because the ratchet serves to give me what I need. I love that arbor press, it is so handy. Only about 3 tons force, but almost two foot stroke. I did have a broken off tooth on the pinion gear that I did not realize when I bought it. It was pretty...

Replacing tool handles Arbor Press/Large Vise

Not that I am suggesting it in this application, but a way that people sometimes get the re-orientation function on solid lever arbor presses is to take out the ram and mill off the very last tooth (bottom one). If you roll it up all the way to that tooth you reach a freewheeling slip point...

Imperial Journey - a Restoration Saga

Trouble-shooting is not always trouble-hitting, that is why... ;) But... Every problem tackled or solved helps hone that skill for sure! Continuously rewiring your brain to work out problems more efficiently, which is why those who never try, generally never really get any better at it or...

Walker Turner 15" drill press PV550 V Belt Pulley Replacement

Search ebay for a motor step pulley. Lots of stuff will come up. Match the shaft size and key size and you'll be good to go. If it was the spindle pulley, it would be tricky as that is very specialized, but the motor pulleys are very generic. Even if the step sizes are not exactly the same...

    Tossing some old thermostats

We hired an operator at work that had worked for the previous owners of the building for many years. That company had a mercury spill from an item that was stored on a rack and fell. According to his account of the event, once this was all reported and investigated (not the same day...

    Vintage X-Acto, Exactly, Exclusively!

Interesting. These were a first for me, but I can see where it would be a good addition in industrial settings where the caps would always go missing. I know that happens where I work all the time.

    Vintage X-Acto, Exactly, Exclusively!

Found a couple more at a nice little estate sale today. Two with slip over covers, have not experienced those previously. Also one with a nice sculptured aluminum handle, cap missing. Very comfortable shape.

    Electro-Mechano drill press

Those are phenomenal drill presses! My old work had a smaller bench style on a heavy base, and it was my go to for all drilling work in the shop. If it was closer, I would find or build the room for that one, especially at that price! Auction? Offer-up?

Imperial Journey - a Restoration Saga

Yes, our tastes can certainly refine and change over time. As a kid I wanted a '53 Ford pickup, as I felt that was the best looking truck, period. It's a good looking truck for sure, but these days I really seek out the more odd and unique ones. That is a solid reason I went for the '54...

Imperial Journey - a Restoration Saga

I have always found the Imperial's to be really stylish cars. Even the more common Chrysler Corp family of brands stuff is getting difficult to find a lot of parts for, but the Imperial's were so special that finding some of those items is amazing feat. You've done an excellent job on that car...

Imperial Journey - a Restoration Saga

Indeed yes, that is where the username originates. :) Those cars were my life for a while, and shaped a lot of what I have done professionally. My '72 240Z succumbed to rust as well. It was a daily driver for me for 3 years and for the original owner for about 10 from new. The salt was very...

Imperial Journey - a Restoration Saga

As a former 240Z and 280ZX owner, as well as a professional mechanical/metal fabrication tech that worked for a Z specialty shop, finding a good solid body Z with a bad drivetrain is rare as hens teeth. The opposite however, a Z with a great working drivetrain that has nearly fallen to the...

Show your Indestro and Duro-Chrome tools

Nice set JMP! Check out my post #1310 in this thread. Found mine at an estate sale with a sales receipt from either 1933 or 1938 under the cardboard in the lid.

Pro mechanics: how long do your screwdrivers last?

Warrantied the blades that broke, but I still have all the original Snap on set I bought first year pulling wrenches. Over half of the set is still fully original. On the No.2 phillips I warrantied the blade multiple times. Worked it hard.
