    Help me diagnose this issue

Yes, the duplex closest to the panel. That is powered. Up until recently, all outlets were working on the circuit. Nothing in my basement was changed by me. I wondering if a hairdryer, with other loads, could have fried the next duplex, thereby killing power to the 3 downstream from it. I...

    Help me diagnose this issue

I'm posting pics to make things more clear. Bear with me as I'm learning as I go. First pic: breaker labeling. 14 is the problem circuit. 2nd pic: Wall location of working and non-working duplex. Working one is facing you at 7 o'clock from panel 3rd pic: wiring of working duplex. THIS is...

    Help me diagnose this issue

Funny how life is. I ran into my buddy who's an electrician at my docs office. He's gonna stop by tomorrow PM and troubleshoot. I didn't want to bother him until I ran out of ideas but I gotta take advantage of the timing. I'm still gonna keep at it as I want the experience going forward but...

    Help me diagnose this issue

Good point. The previous owner backstabbed the GFCI so I'm betting he did them all like that.

    Help me diagnose this issue

I initially thought that but 1 out of 5 duplex outlets on that circuit is live. Just not the 4 in a row after that.

    Help me diagnose this issue

In the process of rearranging my finished basement after carpet cleaning. I found 3 duplex outlets on the same 15A circuit that are not getting power. Also, a GFCI upstream is not working. Went to swap with a new GFCI since the other outlets weren't on and figured I'd check for power on the bare...

    Duplex outlet upgrades

They were not. Previous owner upgraded most of the electrical...new panel, wiring, outlets, etc. Him and his father did the work. Wasn't completed due to his job relocation. Before I bought the house, I called the town Bldg Dept to see if any permits were still pending. They said no. And, they...

    Duplex outlet upgrades

Good points, both of you. Tamper-resistant is not needed or wanted. I changed a few when I first bought the house in '12. Plus, some faulty GFCIs. All screw-down and working fine. I'll stick with the proven methods. Thanks, guys.

    Duplex outlet upgrades

I want to upgrade some outlets in my home; found a few dead ones, etc. I saw a few videos of these WAGO-type from Leviton that look good. Seems to make a solid connection. Any reason not to get these and stay with traditional...

Rookie question about power cord ratings

I saw the fuse housing after I posted my OP. Thanks for confirming.

    Great explanation; thanks!

Rookie question about power cord ratings

Thanks, Cobbler. I may have misspoke. I can't find the 10A cord...no issue using the 13A one? I read about sticking with the same cord ratings that the item was designed with for electrical but just wanted to confirm I understood correctly. Logically, the higher amp rating SHOULD be better.

Rookie question about power cord ratings

Lol, yup, my fat finger hit post. Just edited the OP.

Rookie question about power cord ratings

In the process of rearranging and swapping out multiple pieces of A/V gear, I misplaced a few power cords. Would there be an issue using a 13A-125V cable to replace a lost 10A-125V one? The equipment is a subwoofer rated at around 500W peak and appears to be double insulated due to having a...

    Hole saw recs?

These are what I got. Even though they're 1.5", I still used tape around the insert. Tight fit now. $7 for 5.

    Hole saw recs?

Just saw this today. I put a piece of double-sided tape on the grommet and it snugged it up tight.

    Hole saw recs?

Normally, the off-plane would drive me nuts, too. The reason why I did that was to keep the power cord from coming near the speaker wire. The speakers back panel kinda dictated where. Plus, the speaker will hide that panel. Normally, tho, I would measure and drill in a clean way. I'm OCD, as...

    Hole saw recs?

Thanks, again for the recs. The larger hole on the right is what I just drilled out. The hole on the left was done using a spade bit. Very smooth and , surprisingly, no blowout. Took about 10 seconds. 👍 Will use the smaller hole for the speaker wire and larger for AC cord to keep them isolated.

    Hole saw recs?

Yessir. That's part of my problem. Hip is healing so well that I'm getting complacent. I did all my errands, today, because we're due for some icy weather tomorrow. No way I'm leaving the house and risking a fall. And, I'll save the heavy work in 6 weeks. Limiting my lifting to 20#.
