    Vise grips

I disagree 100%. IME, the Irwin non-USA vise grips are vastly inferior. Jaws are extremely soft, mechanism is poorly made. I've been using Vise grips for more decades than I care to count, and was quite unpleasantly surprised when I purchased a pair of Irwin-made VG's a number of years ago.

    Tool identification

I've never heard of a tire saver before. Very cool! All of the tire savers shown in a google search have teeth, while the OP's mystery items do not.

    Tool ID - triangular scraper?

Way too small to be a bearing scraper. It's a general purpose three sided scraper, frequently used for de burring work. Here's a much higher quality example than the no-name cheapies shown above...

    Tool ID - triangular scraper?

Wow - $40 for a triangular scraper blade? Must be Snap-on or Starrett. Here's what the OP has ($8.70)...

two recent big box store experiences

I've had a VoIP phone in my home for almost 10 yrs as an extension to my office phone system. I have none of the above extra complications or costs; in fact a coworker recently took his VoIP phone on a trip to the Philippines, plugged it into the internet network where he was staying, and it...

    High quality fractional dial caliper?

:lol_hitti That's some funny chit right there. I hope the OP sticks around and doesn't take offense. Although I have many calipers and mics of various styles, and have used them for decades, I have never seen a fractional dial caliper, and didn't know such thing existed until I ran across this...

    Belzer tools?

Belzer and Dowidat are 2 of my favorite tool makers. Unfortunately, not common in the US, and command a high price on eBay. I would not characterize Belzer as a 'low volume' manufacturer. Among other reasons, it made lots of specialty tools for VW and others. From this website...

Atlas Model 70 Drill Press help (1930s?)

Seems to me that you'll be much happier putting a 1/2 hp 1725 rpm motor on there with an original-type pulley setup. Some info here: http://www.lathes.co.uk/atlas-drills-31-32/
