The Concrete Underground's Guide to Floor Slabs

Very glad to have found this thread about concrete. We are getting ready to start a 2K sq. ft. garage build and want a nice concrete floor with a burnished finish.

Generator - Way way too many options to choose from, please help

We live in Auburn, CA with a 3K sq. ft. home on a large piece of property. We have a 22KW Generac whole house generator. It works flawlessly and is fueled by our propane tank, 1K gallons underground. When the power goes out we rarely ever notice as the General kicks in immediately. If you...

Went with the “side work” guy to finish my concrete floor, this is what you get for $4k less than the other bid:

We just got the approval to begin our 1200 sq. ft. ADU with an attached 2K sq. ft. garage. The garage will be 4300 PSI at 6" and power troweled. I will make sure our contractor is fully aware of the quality we expect and that he oversees the concrete pour/finishing. I will tell him, if it...

Is a four post lift a good investment ?

I had a full custom garage with a BendPak mid-rise scissor lift installed in the floor and all hoses and controls concealed. When we sold that house the guy was non-plussed about the lift but loved the super clean garage with LED lighting and porcelain tile floors. I doubt the lift has been...

Building New Garage. Should I go Deeper or Wider?

Maybe stake out the space on the ground (if you can) and then stake out your biggest vehicle and where you might place all of your cabinets and benches. Then walk around and see how it feels. Personally, I would do at least a 12' ceiling if you are going with a 2-post- check their specs for...

Looking for ideas for residential 3 car

I would try to make the garage deeper at least. Otherwise you are really cramped if you do a work bench/cabinets. It is not a lot more to make it bigger if they have not poured the foundation yet.

When your neighbors don't like your new garage....

I hate and love HOA's. Though I think this garage is too tall with 25' walls, if it meets City/County codes and obviously they have approved plans, then it will be a battle to get it changed. I think a 20' wall would have been not as offensive and still gave them what they seek. We have...

    Garage size

Once you are digging for foundation and framing, it really is a lot less to just make it bigger. If you have the room to comfortably enlarge, make it bigger than you think you need. No one ever said, "Damn, that garage is just too big".

What's the going rate for installation cost on a 2 post lift.

We are closing in on finally getting approved plans on our large garage and we will be installing a 2-post asymmetrical arm lift. If it is available, I will have the manufacturer handle the install. Well worth the money in my opinion. I had BendPak install my last 2 lifts and they did...

    New patio pour. It cracked.

I had a very similar experience when I had my patio poured and steps included for 2 sliders. I also had it stamped. I was never satisfied with the finish and the cracks that formed. None were large; all were like the ones you posted. But when you pay good money and hire the best, you expect...

    Garage Refrigerator

And if you want to dress up your garage fridge, look up vinyl wraps for refrigerators. I did one in my last garage, made it look like an old Coke machine and everyone loved it.

Any pros to unfinished garage walls/ceiling?

I like the clean look of a finished garage. Plan out all of the electrical needs and then add more to be sure. Lay out lighting in the ceiling so you have way more than enough light. Add 220 outlets on both sides of the shop and where you think your compressor will go. I want a garage that...

    Porcelain Tile Install DIY

I installed a Porcelain tile floor in my last 3+car garage. I never had any issues with it. I used PEI 5 but 4 is fine. You got a killer deal on the tile. As long as you fully back-butter the tiles and keep your floor grout application nice, you will be fine. Keeping a tile floor clean is a...

Another 2 post lift concrete floor prep question.

I think firebirdparts is correct. I would look at the manufacturers requirements and beef it up from there. This is a situation where over-kill is the right approach. We are in the plans process for a large residential garage, 1500 sq. ft. and plan to do a 2-post Rotary lift. We will be...

What to include, new build home

Maybe consider electrical outlets behind each toilet in the event you want to add a "washing" toilet one day. Also, agree with the power wherever you might want to install security cameras- no battery changing every 3 months. Outlets in the garage to the tune of 1 every 6' with 220 for...

    BendPak Car Lift

I agree with Junkman. I have bought and had BendPak install 2 different lifts in 2 of my homes. Their customer service was excellent. We are in the plan approval phase of a 1550 sq. ft. garage and plan to install a BendPak 2-post asymmetrical arm lift in that garage.

    Bendpak GP7 Lift Problems... Again

I have had 2 BendPak lifts installed by BendPak in my last 2 homes. I have never had anything but great customer service from them. I would call and speak with BendPak and ask for a manager and explain your issue and send them the video. The problem, possibly, is that the installer may have...

    BendPak Aluminum Ramp Storage Solutions?

I hung my race-ramps (lite weight aluminum from BendPak) for my BP 4-post lift on the wall too.

Need help in trying to construct a garage on a corner lot in PA.

If you go to the City Planning Department and explain what you seek to do and ask about a "variance" to allow you to place the garage where you want, they may be able to guide you in the process. Beware, this can be a frustrating experience.
