    BendPak?

I have had 2 BendPak lifts and loved them both; 4-post and mid-rise scissor. We are in the process of submitting plans to the County to build an ADU with an attached 1550 sq. ft. garage with a 13' ceiling. Not sure what type lift we will go with this time, likely a 2-post Rotary, but who...

Starting the garage plan, what should I include?

I think your working shop size is a bit tight. I would make it a bit bigger, 30x40? Pad thickness? Maybe 5" 4000 PSI concrete.; allow lift placement anywhere. How about radiant heat in the pad? What type of floor finish? I like polished concrete (Costco floors) for ease of cleaning. Lots...

How should the concrete be finished?

Thanks for the info; I appreciate that.

Builder built garage too short. What penalty?

So sad to hear this. Also, I feel the only way forward as far as a remedy for you, (which is of course money) is to hire a construction lawyer and let them do what they do. Let the chips fall where they may. But it is going to cost you money because no lawyer should take this case on a...

How should the concrete be finished?

Tomorrow we actually have the first step in building our 1550 sq. ft. garage- they test drill some holes for the septic system. We plan on doing a 6" concrete 4000 PSI floor, polished to the level of a Costco floor. I wish we could do a nice epoxy floor instead, likely a lot cheaper. I have...

The Concrete Underground's Guide to Floor Slabs

What a great read. We are getting ready to begin construction on a 1550 sq. ft. garage and I want to have a polished concrete floor. We decided to go 6" thick so we can install our lift where ever we want. It will have radiant heat to keep it nice year 'round.

    Garage door opener advice

Yes, they are a bit more than your budget, but the Chamberlain jackshaft openers are a world apart from the typical overhead chain drive units. Also, keeps the ceiling looking clean. I have installed them in my last 2 garages and will do them in all of my future garage door installs. PS-...

I am looking for some 4 post lift information.

If there is any way you can add a couple feet in depth, you will be forever glad you did. Once you add a workbench at the front of the garage you eat up some space quickly and it gets tight.

Cost to move my 4-post lift 500 miles?

I had my 4-post disassembled and moved about 5 miles when I sold the house in 2013 for $500. Then I sold the lift for $2K to a guy who showed up with a dolly and chains and 2 friends with a flat-bed. Net $1,500 for me. I had sold the home with the lift and after 2 weeks the new owner called...

    Quality Vehicle Fire Extinguisher

I keep a 5 lb. extinguisher under the hood of my '71 914-6. If you have ever seen a car fire, those 2.5 lb. extinguishers run out pretty quick. The 5 lb. gives you a fighting chance.

New 2 Car Garage Project - Starting with Insulation

All of the above are good solutions. Before you add insulation, think about electrical needs and add outlets where you might need them. Also, if you might ever own an electric car, think about a 220 outlet. Run all of your lighting runs first.

Detached Workshop Garage Design Input Requested

What a terrific project. I am just starting a similar build, 1550 sq. ft. garage- hope to break ground in April. I agree with the sink/toilet since you are building a detached garage. We are pouring a 6" slab that will be polished concrete to make it easy to clean/roll stuff on. We are...

Expanding my attached garage. Where to start?

I agree with the above. I am doing this as I write this. We are building an ADU/attached garage (1200 sq. ft ADU with attached 1550 sq. ft. garage) on our 3 acre lot. If you hire a local General Contractor experienced in building new construction in your area they will likely have a good...

Whats the purpose of calling 811, call before you dig?

I had a contractor install a fence at a rental. He said he knew what he was doing and he hit the PG&E gas line. Fortunately the house was vacant. The fire department responded and closed the street while a PG&E employee shut the gas off at the closest valve. PG&E then interviewed the...

    New garage door install rant….sorry!!

I would stop into their showroom and talk to the owner/manager and explain the issue and how dissatisfied you are. Take pictures with you. I would then give them the opportunity to come out and make it right before you do anything else. Given social media and Yelp, etc., most reputable...

2 post lift or finished floor

Yeah, I agree with the above about stupidity being the main culprit cars fall off lifts. I am pretty sure I will go with the 2-post Rotary lift. The garage is 44' x 34' with a 13' ceiling, so we will have the room.

2 post lift or finished floor

I have had lifts in my last 2 garages; the first was a 4-post the second was a scissor lift. I loved them both for different reasons. The 4-post was used mostly for storing a car that was awaiting a restoration. The scissor lift was mostly for maintenance and detailing. I am in the process...

40x40 hillside garage with mezzanine-in progress updates!

Amazing garage. We are beginning construction of a 44'x34' garage within the next 60 days. I am very excited to get that moving and we are just awaiting the final plans. Good luck with your project.

Garage door quotes which do you think is the best value?

Regardless of what door(s) you choose, consider the jackshaft wall mounted openers. I had 2 Chamberlain openers on my high-lift doors and they are very quiet and take the motor off the ceiling for a very clean look.
