Setting up a welding space, any ideas?

That and a 3x5 steel top table I bought at an auction work for me. Also would advise not wearing flip flops while welding. At least not regularly. :)

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT The 12-Gauge Garage

Re: How to test a deck We ran an Intex - same build structure, same liner color, 18' x 48" for about 6 years. $389 close out at Sams. I put our big old 3/4 HP Tagleus sand filter on it after re-freshing the sand and replacing the pump drive. It eventually got out of level about 3". It...

Is it recommended to paint OSB?

The usual has been some oil based primer to seal the OSB, rather than a water based latex primer that would tend to "fuzz" the OSB. Then top coat. I left mine bear, the cost and the number of coats at the time said "F-it, move in and get to using the space". The walls have held up just fine...

    I finally figured it out

I put a single straight line gutter on the shop front. I'm about to cut it in half, it leaks at the half way point anyhow LOL. Nothing but a catch bucket for Mesquite needles and misc trash.

Deck footer off by 3 inches... options???

Agree that if the 6x6 lands on the footer you're good. Your OCD will never let it go, but support wise it should be good 'nuff.

Old gas cans...am I going to kill myself?

I buy new 5 gallon plastic cans then put in a tire valve + cap for the vent and use the EZ Pour spout. I store as much as 20 gallons at a time. They get a little rotund with the heat in the shed, but no problems.

    Adding windows to garage?

Not sure you can find 14 1/2" wide windows. Just cut things to fit a common 24" x ? and frame from the inside. The header I used is overkill, but had the scrap lumber to use up. My studs are 24" OC, windows are 24x36

    Rustoleum Water Based

For those in Canada, it appears there are a lot of places just like this - ask the US neighbor to make a Lowes run and set the cans by the fence LOL.

    Splicing to NASA Standards

I had forgotten about the WU splice technique. That's robust for sure. Good splice for race car wiring if you have the room.

toggle switch to turn off VFD?

I used a motor rated lockout switch. Same on the 240V lathe, I keep the machine power off. Have grandkids that like to grab knobs and push buttons.

    Need Wifi to Shop

Ubiquity/Unifi is waaay outside the OP's skill set. You will have a problem with wifi because of the construction of the building. Range extender is going to be iffy and low bandwidth. Your students will really enjoy the choppy video and audio. Depending on where your house router is, get...

    Question for builders

"Barndominium" - most of those are configured like that. Keeping fumes out of the overhead house part becomes an issue if you have things like hot rods/race cars that don't use modern evap control systems.

Who has installed AC in their garage?

LOL - when I win one in a drawing maybe. I'm out less than $400 right now and going on 9 years of operation.

    Light Temperature

    >"Best" is subjective. There is no definitive answer. Exactly - Every bulb here is 6500K, no exceptions.

    Garage Security System

PS - on the shop cam, it's connected to a switch for power. It's a total PITA to have the phone bouncing off the bench every time you walk into the cam's alert area. You can "snooze" the alarm, but it only snoozes the alarm for a fix period and only on the device with the app. So any other...

    Garage Security System

The Ring stuff is not real cheap but does work well enough. The alerts can come in at random delay times because it's cloud based. I've seen door bell alerts lag as much as 2 minutes. The camera/flood setup was a huge PITA but seems to work once finally configured. And I'm an "IT Guy". It's...

    Coating masonite workbench surface, options?

I used regular garage/porch/floor paint from Lowes. Had it mixed to a gray color, just a tint I liked. The bench is going on 9 years in use with cylinder head work, carb rebuilds, wood work, misc stuff. Nothing much "nice". It's seen plenty of Berrymans, pump fuel, race fuel, methanol...

    Oil change on cold engine

I change the race engine, trucks, generator, mower, etc all cold. Have no desire to work on a hot motor. Put a pan under it, pull the plug, go have a beverage. It's not a NASCAR pit stop.

    Trash Can: All Junk?

My go-to can is a 55 gallon VP fuel drum with the top cut out, bagged using Sam's Club liners. A piece of OSB and some small casters from Harbor Freight for a base and it's mobile. Can was free from the drag strip. As for service pickup cans, those are specified and rented from the contracted...
