Pipe Dope: Longevity on the Shelf

It will dry out before its ineffective. Ive also seen guys add some cutting oil to pipe dope thats drying out in a pinch. I have a can thats probably 10 years old at home and its fine.

    Show Your Heritage Logo Love

I'm stuck home this weekend with a head cold so I spent some time in the basement refelting the drawers in my machinist box and cleaned and regreased the slides. I just couldn't bring myself to go with the green. Not bad for a $4 upgrade.

Tape, dope or both for black pipe for compressed air

Union pipefitter here. The biggest variable is how the threads were cut. You should be able to spin a fitting onto the threads 3 to 3.5 revolutions by hand with no dope to check the settings. I like three wraps of tape and then a quality dope like loctite 567. It comes in a squeeze tube and...

    Show Your Heritage Logo Love

I had a pretty good first month of collecting vintage Craftsman stuff. A couple weeks ago I scored the drill press. The following week I picked up a 50s 1/4 horse grinder and a 1/3 horse grinder both with the King Seeley pedestal. Yesterday the drill index came in the mail and today my machinest...

    Tools from the old world

I ran across a handful of W German made unmarked wrenches and a Gedore India today at the Habitat Restore. I first saw the Chrom Vanadium marks and thought I was about to score a few Hazets but no such luck.

    "Pre-Block" Grinders--Where's the Love?

I picked up my first vintage grinder yesterday. A 1958 1/3 horse on a pedestal. I snagged the 1957 1/4 horse on the way home. The tag on the 57 is super crispy. I can see these becoming addictive.
