2-12.5 amp infared heaters on a 30 Amp Circuit?

WHY in the world would the breaker trip??? A breaker can run at 100% and never trip, although it's not designed for it. Where did you get this extreme misinformation that a breaker trips at over 80%???

Ceiling mounted traditional fixtures in shop. Why not?

Absolutely agree. IMO nothing over 4000k for industrial/shop use and nothing over 3000k for inside a dwelling.

    Question about installing some outlets.

Because he's thinking of using conduit down the wall. EMT is clean and easy, and PVC affords no more protection in the eyes of the code than NM cable itself.

    Outlet Locations? Somewhat Unique Situation

Those are Eagle and not available any more as far as I know. You do require GFI protection for regular 120V receptacles in a garage, everywhere in a garage under newer codes.

    Outlet Locations? Somewhat Unique Situation

I would put them exactly like this first pic in this post. Absolutely no reason not to IMO.

    Question about installing some outlets.

Raised covers are made for 4"sq boxes and 4-11/16"sq boxes.

    Sanity check- Heater wire size

30A circuit is correct for this heater. A 50A receptacle IS NOT. Replace the 50 with a 30A receptacle, or better yet hard wire it.

    Question about installing some outlets.

I agree with the previous reply to run conduit up the wall, but do NOT put a box at the top. That is unnecessary work and material, and if you ever finish the area that will create a violation by burying the boxes. Just use a conduit to NM changeover fitting. Also, do use 4x4 boxes with raised...

What kind of lights do I have in my shop?

Agreed. That or mercury vapor. But most likely MH.

    aluminum vs. copper

That is Type SE cable and CANNOT be used underground. You need URD or MHF cable.

    aluminum vs. copper

I see this mentioned CONSTANTLY, and while it is true I have yet to see a modern (within the past maybe 15-20 years) THHN conductor that is not dual rated THHN/THWN.

Ceiling mounted traditional fixtures in shop. Why not?

Be careful with lamps like this. Most can only be used in open fixtures and some must be used in the base-down position. Personally I see no reason for the cage fixtures. Simple porcelain keyless fixtures would be just as good, unless dampness/wetness or physical damage is a valid issue.

    Grounding rod suggestions......

Rod, pipe and plate electrodes all require supplemental electrodes. CEE's do not. This is in "250.53 Grounding Electrode System Installation".

    Grounding rod suggestions......

What do you base this on? Code clearly states if rebar exists and meets certain conditions it MUST be used. Code also clearly does not require any other electrodes if a Ufer is used. Would you like the NEC text?

    Grounding rod suggestions......

The quote you posted is wrong (see my previous reply). It is definitely NOT one or the other. Once code minimum is met you can have as much extra as you want. Although other than for something like a radio antenna or tower you are wasting money, but it's your money to waste. Grounding...

    Grounding rod suggestions......

Then unless there is a written amendment in your area your inspector does not know the code. If a CEE (Ufer) is used NO other supplemental electrodes are required. None. The Ufer alone is sufficient.
  18. S

    Grounding rod suggestions......

This is not at all true. First off, if there is rebar in the footings, under recent codes you MUST use this for a CEE (Ufer) since it is present. In that case NO other electrodes are required. Also, it is definitely NOT one or the other, nor are ground rods required. There are several other...

    What gauge wire?

FULLY agree. ANY inspector who would pull this one is looking for something to fail and looking for an argument, and he'd get one from me.

Type of Wire for 60a supply

I agree 25A seems high for 2T, but I bet that's the max breaker rating. Although most 2T I have seen the max breaker is less than 20A. Could be an inefficient unit since it's only a shop. Agreed, the inside unit almost certainly has electric backup heat. That's the only explanation for the high...
