Why in the South do you see combo Meter/Main panels outside??

Do you not have attached garages, basement or utility rooms?

Why in the South do you see combo Meter/Main panels outside??

You CANNOT be serious! I'll take the beautiful all FOUR seasons of upstate NY ANY day over boring California weather.

Why in the South do you see combo Meter/Main panels outside??

This cannot be the only reason. They have other ways of killing power as well.

Power from free standing meter pedastal

No he can't. Where did you get this myth from? Not unless he has a written code section to back up his interpretation. For instance, some areas will require smoke detectors installed if a certain area of a home is renovated, or a certain dollar amount project/addition is done. These are things...

Power from free standing meter pedastal

Certainly not. Codes are not retroactive. Most meter pans do not have double lugs. Some are available with them or will accept them. IMO they are by far the exception rather than the rule. No matter what, a detached structure served by a feeder must have at least one grounding electrode of some...

Power from free standing meter pedastal

21 years ago it was allowable to run a 3-wire feeder from something like a pedestal, even from a main breaker. There were conditions to be met but right now that's irrelevant. This exception for a 3-wire feeder was removed from the code quite a while ago so the folks telling you that you need to...

Power from free standing meter pedastal

Well, the OP's setup is different. As he states, he is coming from a breaker, so he MUST run a 4-wire feeder. And two ground rods are typically required, unless you want to buy the $800 tester to test for 25ohms.

$9,000 in labor for all-in-one upgrade?

Who might that be? :dunno: No, he got a (very likely high) quote and proceeded to try and break it down into material and time. I agree with the person who said the guy probably didn't want the job so he bid it high.

$9,000 in labor for all-in-one upgrade?

I love how lay folks try and break down a flat rate quote and see what the labor and material cost will be. There is no way you'll know what the person was thinking or their method of figuring the quote. And guessing at the material and what you think they'll be making an hour is just that, a...

How to mount these light fixtures..I must be missing something.

Cutting out that high ridge in the siding and having it leak would drive me nuts.

How to mount these light fixtures..I must be missing something.

I'd deal with the light being 2-4" off center of the door ANY day over cutting the high spot out of the siding.

How to mount these light fixtures..I must be missing something.

IMO you'd be crazy to mount those lights on the high spots of that siding. WAY too much work to seal properly. What I'd do is get round weatherproof boxes, bring the cable into the back through a smallish hole (just big enough for the connector) and mount the box to the surface of the siding...

    Electricians screwdrivers

I used to use Klein exclusively. The quality seems to have slipped in recent years. Many guys I speak to seem to agree. Or maybe it's just I/we have found something so much better that it makes Klein seem inferior. Klein reps have even shown up to another site I frequent to deal with complaints...

    Electricians screwdrivers

I would not buy another Klein. Rather cheaply made these days and do NOT last IMO. Ask any real professional who uses them every day and you'll get way more negative reviews on Klein than positive. It's really unfortunate. It's only Wiha/Wera/etc for me. alfredeneuman, I'm sorry for your...

50 or 30 amp RV plug vs welder plug

Typical travel trailer/RV plugs are TT130 (120V-30A, grounding) or NEMA 14-50 (120/240V-50A grounding). You heard right about plugging an RV into a welder, but for the wrong reason. As stated, a welder receptacle lacks a neutral, but does have a ground. Anyone who makes an adapter with a...

Hahaha... not quite. I just find it funny how **** and nit-picky some people can be. Especially engineer types.
