    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

9 mil nitrile gloves - definite pass. It's like wrapping your hands in an inner-tube. Well, not quite, but they hold up well. http://www.harborfreight.com/9-mil-nitrile-powder-free-gloves-50-pc-x-large-68512.html

Richard (Canadian Made) Pry Bars at Ollie's Bargain Outlet

Was in the Pottstown PA store today, they still have them there. They also have a small Craftsman strap wrench for 3.99, and Rockwell 3 pc. oscillating tool plunge blades for 5 bucks. They had some husky hex wrenches, and a lot of **** too.

Found this in one of the mags I get, so it found a home in the lid of one of my boxes.

    Tool set for my kid?

That set should be a good start. Get a small toolbox and toss in a few extras too, like some wd40, duct tape, a piece of wire coat hanger, a hammer, a small level, and let them fill it up the rest of the way. Oh yeah, paint your daughter's name on them in pink, just in case it goes south. ;)

    Pry bars

These are by far the best bang for the buck IMO. Got them at Ollie's and have been using them for a while now. So far, I'm really happy, and they are dirt cheap there.

anyone else notice the different casting on craftsman wrenches/ratchets??

You make too many assumptions. Sure I have. Grew up in NJ, now live in PA. My oldest car is 46, hell, most of my cars are over 20-25 years old. My snow blower is from 1967! I worked as a truck fleet mechanic, and currently as an electro-mechanical tech, working on industrial injection mfg...

anyone else notice the different casting on craftsman wrenches/ratchets??

Turning bolts is fine. My example was a parallel to using a wrench wrong though. The open end isn't supposed to be used for busting really tight fasteners loose, especially with a cheater pipe, that's all I was saying. Not just because it could spread or brake, but also because it's not the...

anyone else notice the different casting on craftsman wrenches/ratchets??

So if a Craftsman screwdriver with a pipe on it being used as a prybar bends removing a stuck head, but a Snap-On doesn't, the craftsman is ****? :headscrat

anyone else notice the different casting on craftsman wrenches/ratchets??

I dunno. I still don't get the wrench spreading thing. In 35 years of busting my knuckles, I've never seen this happen to anything other than the cheap cast Japanese junk that was floating around when I was a teenager. I guess if I would use a wrench wrong I could make it happen, but even...

anyone else notice the different casting on craftsman wrenches/ratchets??

I've been using my RP Craftsman wrenches for over 30 years with no complaints. I never found them to be uncomfortable or sharp. Guys today though shave all their body hair, use body wash, and flitter around like a bunch of g-damn sissies though, so I can see where sears would think they would...

yet another "what is this tool?" thread

Looks like a brake spoon. There doesn't seem to be too much info on the maker other than it's a casting co.

    Big wrench

That's cool. Looks like something used on an oil rig or something. The sign idea is good. Drill a couple holes in it and hang the sign from it with chain, painted to match of course, then weld a bracket to one end to hang it.

Most Common 3 Car Garage Size

Mine is 24' deep x 36' wide. If I didn't have another 30x36 pole barn behind it, it would be way too small.

    Need Help Designing Loft Storage

Yeah, the beam doesn't have support anywhere but the ends. My loft is full of car parts, wheels, tires, lumber, whatever I shove up there. I would think for your needs a long enough section of C channel or a moderate I beam would do the trick if you are only using it for storage.
