    abrasive saws

Do the band saws makes less of a mess of material/sparks? I guess I'm still not understanding why by a chop saw if a 4x6 or 4x7, can better handle the material and not be as messy?

Jack Stand or Jack - which one weighted?

    Rebar in Apron

For $468 I think it's a no brainer to get it. You will always have that in the back of your mind if you skip out on it at this point - and it's not like you can go back and add it in later.

    abrasive saws

So some of you are saying something like this is better overall than a chop saw? I don't have either yet, but have been trying to figure out what to buy. The biggest/thickest piece of metal I would be cutting is 2x2 1/4". Do these band saws work better just because of the blade teeth vs...

Jack Stand or Jack - which one weighted?

Yep, got it all and totally agreed that I have been in the wrong in my setup. I will for sure change over next time I have it up. Thanks!

Jack Stand or Jack - which one weighted?

Ok, good to know! I will switch what I'm doing and place the main weight on the stands from now on. Thanks guys for the consensus!

Jack Stand or Jack - which one weighted?

It's hard to see in my picture, but I have about 1" between the vehicle frame the top of the jack stands. The stands are rated well above the vehicle weight. But technically, you are correct in that unless they are field 'tested' I cannot be 100% certain they would hold.

Jack Stand or Jack - which one weighted?

So got to thinking while I was under my truck changing the oil. I have always placed the jack and jack stands as such (but I leave the weight of the truck on the jack itself). Is it safer to lower the truck until the jack stands take the weight and leave the jack in place as a backup -- Or...

    Calling All Microwave Oven Techs.

Seriously chuck it. A nice new one is $199. Ours just caught on fire. It was popping and sizzling a bit but still heating fine. Then just last night I smell burning something - and peak into the vent at the top and I see FLAMES! ****! Unplugged and got them put out. Not worth the risk - I...

    How to cut this out?

Yeah, the hole didn't cut perfect but was close enough that I had to tap the other material down into it. So a nice fit before welding up. Larry_G you are right, 1/4" material. Hacksawing was taking forever but did work. I was just asking for a faster method and went with the jigsaw as I had...

    How to cut this out?

Yep, no plasma. That would be great though. I did find short 14 tooth jig saw blades and it worked great. I drilled out the corners and then one bigger hold in between each to shorten the distance to cut. That big piece goes into my trailer hitch. The hole is for a piece I'm sticking...

    How to cut this out?

Thanks for all the ideas guys. I'll try the drill 4 corners and use a jig saw metal blade to connect them. I want the corners squared as much as possible. I need to slowly invest in tools and will eventually have what I need to do it quicker/nicer.

    How to cut this out?

Sorry, forgot to add, no torch handle. As to a hole saw and then jig saw the corners, where's a reasonable place to get blades? My local Lowes and/or Home Depot seem to be heavy towards wood working (which makes sense). Is there a good priced place online that's easy to order a bunch of...

    How to cut this out?

Hi All- Rookie metal person here. I'm trying to fabricate something and I have a 2" x 2" x 1/4" square bar as in the picture and I want to cut out the white square on the top side only (1 1/4" sq). What's the easiest way to do this? It's too small to use my angle grinder, and really thick...

I have this..and want to add another light w/Pull string

Thanks guys for the replies. I did not realize that the black box above the pull string light was a 'jbox' and that I could open it and just tap off that for the new light I want to install. I thought that box was part of the pull string light - shows you how dumb I am when it comes to...

I have this..and want to add another light w/Pull string

Hi- I'm really bad at electrical, so asking for help. I've tried to document what I have below. I want to add a single bulb light with a pull string (mounted to an inside closet wall). I currently have 1 light with a pull string nearby and it's fed from an outlet (also nearby). I'm hoping...

Nothern Tool 14" Dry Cut Saw review/Initial impressions...

I wonder if the 14" chop saw I noted cuts better? Reason being, it's 1,200 rpms SLOWER than the miter saw you mentioned (in addition to being able to handle much larger stock). I thought when cutting metal, slower is better....

Nothern Tool 14" Dry Cut Saw review/Initial impressions...

I see a Rage chop saw at Home Depot or Lowes for $299 w/free shipping. This is for a 14" saw. So about $20 more. Seems it's more a preference of table/handle design, but the blade on the Rage seems of higher quality I would think? Saw says 1,450 RPM...

Man, pallet rack looks so much nicer with new paint

Looks exactly like how I did mine awhile back in my workbench thread. I agree it made a huge difference:
