    The VISES of Garage Journal

Previous post was mine, not sure how I posted without being logged in but apparently I did. I was given a Rock Island 851 in exchange for some work I did. It is in excellent shape, except for one major problem: it is missing the main bolt that it swivels on. If anyone knows where I can get a...

What is it? Buss Fuse in socket.

Thanks for the answers. I had initially thought it was doorbell related, but the location and the fuse threw me. I guess the just put it in closets to make them accessible but out if sight. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

What is it? Buss Fuse in socket.

I have been looking at houses recently, and in a couple houses I have seen a single socket with a screw in Buss Fuse and what appears to be a capacitor. In both cases the houses were reportedly built in the 1970s and have a regular breaker box as well. A picture is attached. Any help is...

    Micro Knipex to small ?

I use the 6" pliers wrench daily, sometimes at min. capacity and sometimes at almost max. capacity. It handles 99% of what I need it for. It all depends on what sizes of fasteners/fittings you work with.

gift idea help for GFs dad?

I am giving my FIL a 10" pliers wrench. He has a very extensive set of quality tools and was impressed with my pliers wrench. Easy, high quality gift. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

    Ratchet strap / tie downs

Roll them up. Hardware inside, use the last foot out so for an over hand knot, and throw them in a bag that comes with drills or other tools. Works for all sizes. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

    What size of pliers wrench?

I have the 10 and the 7 1/4. I use the smaller a lot more often simply because they are easier to carry. Most of the time the 10 would have made the job easier, but the best tool is the one on hand. I guess the question would be us it likely you would carry them or would they be in a toolbox...

How are the Knipex Alligator Pliers?

I have the Sears cobras and the knipex alligators. Same quality, and they both work great. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

How are the Knipex Alligator Pliers?

If you like channel locks you will like the alligators. The adjustment is kind of similar, you open the pliers and pick the "slot" that will fit. The grip is very positive, with hard, sharp jaws and really even clamping force because of the way the handles hinge. There are a lot more adjustments...

    New Milwaukee V-Jaw Pliers

For me the knipex are worth it, no question. The teeth on the Milwaukees are angled as well. There aren't too many situations where it would be a problem. It would have to be extremely tight quarters where you could only hold the pliers one way and an extremely tight fastener \ pipe for the...

    New Milwaukee V-Jaw Pliers

They are alright. A little bulkier than knipex. Not quite as grippy either but the adjustment is nice. I believe the pair I have may Taiwan. They were purchased over a year ago but are pretty much the same. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

Time to replace the splitting maul handle with fiberglass

Same here. I have gotten a lot of discarded broken tools that had fiberglass handles from work, and replaced them with wood. I don't have the time, tools, or skill to make my own handles so I get them from House Handles. If you take care of a wood handle, and don't overstrike, it will last...

    18v AND 12v tools?

I started with dewalt 18v because that is what I had at work. I was gifted some dewalt 12v max and I liked it. The drill, impact driver, and 3/8 impact performed well. The limitation is the variety of tools offered. Currently, at work, we use m12 and m28. Very little 18v of any platform...

    Anyone else like Channellocks?

I have more in tool boxes here and there. I just picked up the filter pliers (209 & 212) to replace some cheap HF filter pliers I have.

Going to make a Road bag...

Battery post cleaner/ brush. No telling how many times I have helped someone get their car going in a parking lot by cleaning battery connections. Also a tube of gasket maker. Thermostat freezes up, remove it and put housing back on. It will get you home. The gasket maker also has tons of...

    Decent cordless drill...fathers day

I have been using 12v li-ion for about 5 years now and I am impressed. I would say that they last as long as 18v Ni-Cad with only slightly less power and 1/2 the weight. I had been using the 12v max dewalt, but they have been very slow to expand the platform. I have started switching over to the...
