Anybody use this type of battery lifter?

I've had a version of that for forty years. I don't use it any more -- the battery in my vintage sportscar started puking acid from the positive terminal a few years ago, and the only explanation I can think of is overstressing the case using that carrier.

Tiny box cutter for keychain that has a lock?

The Christy pocket knife is a compact, well-made locking/sliding blade made by a small company in northwestern Ohio for decades. https://christycompany.net/pages/the-christy-pocket-knife

    Painting Garage

My garages are getting painted as we speak. I’m using the same bright white eggshell paint I used in the shop. For me, a gloss finish paint on a smooth wall gives too Much distracting glare. And a completely dull flat finish marks too easily and is hard to clean. An eggshell finish is the...

    Painting Garage

I do something similar by making my own color swatch cards like those on the racks at the paint store. I have a stash of neutral-colored generic cards (mainly the pennant-shaped ones from Lowe’s) that get painted with the actual paint used anywhere around the house. These go in a three ring...

Dead blow hammers - one piece vs. interchangeable heads

I have a big honkin’ Trusty Cook deadblow I use to take off and put on the wire wheel knockoffs on my vintage Triumph TR3. Works great. Enough mass to move the eared nut and soft enough not to mar the chrome plated brass. I don’t think they make removable faces that large, and I don’t see a...

    Robust 12V Air Compressor

Yeah, how much do you want to spend? I have an older version this 12V case-mounted ARB, and it's definitely robust. And pricey! It’s a terrific compressor, although I'm not sure I could justify replacing it with a new one if I had to. ARB have recently added brushless versions of their...

Tools to have in order to avoid abusing other tools

I’m willing to beat the hell out of one of these and save my good tools for what they do best. Painters multi-tools cost notalot and are pretty durable.

Is diesel the best degreaser? and if the answer is no, why do you like being wrong?

I meant to say that I use mineral spirits or purple stuff to clean off the remaining film of diesel prior to any downstream work.

Is diesel the best degreaser? and if the answer is no, why do you like being wrong?

I use diesel as a degreaser all the time. Its low volatility is also an advantage. I’ll use mineral spirits or SuperClrsn (the purple stuff) to get the surfaces clean for any repainting to be done.

Milwaukee M12 sprayer - any feedback?

The -21 version seems to have changed the orientation of the spray band when stowed compared to my -20 version. The upright wand looks more convenient and ultimately more compact than the sideways stowage on the older version.

Painting used Mohawk car lift prior to install?

I’ve never had good outcomes treating EvapoRust as a “brush on” rust remover. I love the stuff when a workpiece can be immersed in the stuff. I’ve had very good results with the POR-15 system. That’s what I’d use in this case. (1) Metal-Prep as a phosphate-based rust neutralizer, (2) POR-15 for...

Painting used Mohawk car lift prior to install?

I’d do it right or close to it is the only way I’d be able to live with the list. And myself. A less-than-decent job would gnaw at me forever. But then, i spent decades in the real world doing R&D into water-based coatings. You’ve got so much time invested in this already, why not bring it...

Milwaukee M12 sprayer - any feedback?

I’ve had a Milwaukee 2528-20 sprayer for almost a year and a half, at the recommendation of a friend who really likes his. The M12 sprayer is a real winner. It has three spray settings, the strongest of which puts out a broad fan I use around the walls and foundations of my place. The lower...

    MAC/Stanley Deadblow Hammers Sticky Handles

The polyurethane is self-destructing. Often called “hydrolysis” although it’s a little more complicated than just that. Irreversible and terminal.

Another Tekton Protype MTR4 Tool Roll

Seems kinda pricey for Tekton’s business model. The Adventure Tool Company canvas roll I keep in the boot of my vintage Triumph TR3 does a fine job, and is also made in USA. They’re pricey too, but still under a hundred bucks. https://www.adventuretoolcompany.com/products/shoproll

Yeah, given yours have battery backup (which mine don’t) there indeed should be any effect from a main power loss.

Liftmaster LA400 gate opener forgetting remotes

Any chance the opener is experiencing intermittent loss of power? My Liftmaster openers forget their remotes if I deenergize the circuit they're on.

What is this, a fidget wrench?

It’s a real longshot, but maybe something for a Honda Powersports, or even less likely, Power Equipment line product with different, market-specific fasteners? Paging @Metallitubby… No work I’ve done on my or our family’s Japanese vehicles for the last fifty years has needed 13/16mm wrenches...

What is this, a fidget wrench?

Hmm… 13/16mm aren’t typical sizes on a Japanese car. The center ring does kinda look like it’s intended as a keeper of some sort, but that’s kind of an odd way to do it. A clip might be used in many cases for this. I can’t think of a good reason for the ring being related to its wrenching...
