    Floor Jack Pad

This. I’ve been using the same hockey puck for over twenty years across multiple jacks.

    Lisle Mini Pry Bars

I like my little Snap ons, but I mostly reach for my Tektons these days. They’re cheap enough and warranted so I can tackle anything with them without fear. The combination of a tough nylon handle (not polypropylene like most others) and a really thin tip work well. As @Fedwrench notes...

Source for Stainless Steel 1/4 inch x 1 1/4 Pan Head Wood Screws?

I’ve compromised in my habit of replacing outdoor fasteners with stainless by using BZP (bright zinc plated) sometimes. Truly, they’ve worked fine, and technically likely have higher strength. Now that I’m living in the high-and-dry environment of Northern New Mexico, BZP is probably more than...

    Help Identifying Vintage Manbee Drive-On Ramp (Model D 300 C, 1940s?)

Yes, but not the same thing as a good old-fashioned grease pit. The last one I saw in a real shop was seven years ago at Smalley's Garage in Watkins Glen. And even that vintage garage had a new two-post lift to be installed the next week. Ten or twelve years ago one of the exhibitors at...

Propane mosquito traps - effective? Can natural gas be used?

I had a decent sized propane+heated attractant mosquito trap from Costco years ago. I ended up putting it out at the "free garage sale" at the curb. My back yard was covered with mosquitos -- idiot neighbors who took no care to eliminate standing water -- and in, I think, two seasons the...

    Help with weak Wilton stamping

Hold a flashlight at a very low angle, almost horizontal, across the stamping, @shares. That will help bring it out.

    Cleaning up key blank

Looks like oxidation through the plating in the exposed head, and original finish in the inserted blade. One of the original keys for my 1962 Triumph TR3 looks similar. Use something coarser and stronger than steel wool on the blade. You're gonna need to get into the harder plating to dull it.

    VINTAGE OIL BOTTLES…

I remember the Certified station in my southeastern Ohio hometown in the late 1960s with a rack of glass oil bottles on the end of the island, including used oil(!) sold cheap. It wasn’t bad looking oil, TBH.

    Zoro Deals Thread

I seem to get three or four Zoro discount codes each week, through email and postcards. Once in a blue moon they can be applied to things I need, so overall this is a pretty unexciting program to this regular but modest buyer. Offered here in case anyone can use these: 20% ending 6/30/2025...

Diagonal flush cutters for plastics and cable ties specifically

I have a pair of small carbide-edged nippers from a guy on eBay who sells secondhand medical tools. Apparently these are a typical part of a traction kit of some kind in case tensioned wires need to be cut. I learned about them on here years ago and they’re terrific. As a test I got a pair of...

Easy good way to put new handles on files with out one

I have a number of smaller files with handles just like this, left in the shop by my house (and shop’s) previous owner, a custom knifemaker. They’re really comfortable to use. I wouldn’t otherwise have thought this but golf balls make great handles!

    Snow and Nealy

I've had this Snow and Nealley splitting maul in my camping gear for over 30 years -- bought it new back in the day.

    Socket nut drivers

I’ve only found the 8mm and 10mm Toyota/Vessel Megadora nut drivers, @AJHD. And that’s after quite a bit of reviewing Toyota workshop tools available worldwide. I don’t believe there are other sizes. But if you’re interested in Toyota-branded tools, be sure to run a search for my other posts...

    Socket nut drivers

No worries. The JDM parts supplier/shipper I've used works best by sending them an email with the part numbers desired (from any Japanese supplier, not just Toyota). They'll respond promptly with a pro-forma invoice including shipping for one's approval if the parts are available. Hassle is...

    Socket nut drivers

Look up my posts on those Vessel drivers and other Toyota JDM tools in the Tools of Japan thread. All the details you need are there.

    Socket nut drivers

They’re JDM Toyota tools, but it’s not hard to get them ordered and forwarded over here using one of the services offering that. See my post deep into the Tools of Japan thread for details.
