The upside to an oversized ac

Not really sure how you figure a 10 degree decrease over 2 hours is ‘oversized’. I would expect those results from a properly sized, well working a/c system. What am i missing here?

Anyone regretted installing mini splits on an old house?

an acquaintance i know built a large house on the Great Sacandaga Lake in upstate NY about 2 years ago. He put in electric heat as options were minimal as no propane or oil company wanted to deliver to him where the house was being built. It was costing him a fortune to heat. he saw my mini...

Where can you add a “C” wire on a Becan/Morris garage heater model TBUF- BR075?

Strictly in electrical terms, the common wire is the neutral leg back to the source of electricity. It’s reference to ground is ZERO VOLTS. looking at the op’s wiring diagram, house voltage at 115v goes in, white is neutral, black is hot. The white (neutral wire) is punched down to L1, and the...

    Nest thermostat concerns

In my case, until last september, i had a boiler for my hot water baseboard which was 51 years old, as old as the house. The boiler worked fine but there were plumbing issues as well as a pipe in a wall freezing and stopping heat to the first floor zone. i insulated the wall the pipe was...

    Nest thermostat concerns

Right. The blue wire is a spare at your thermostat. On the other end at the boiler, or furnace, connect the blue to “common’ in your control board. Should be good to go.

Where can you add a “C” wire on a Becan/Morris garage heater model TBUF- BR075?

The nest will run on batteries alone but eat thru them like the cookie monster at a cookie factory. It also wont have motion sensing display function enabled. You WANT a C wire connection for sure. That is if you want your expensive nest thermostat to work nicely.

    Nest thermostat concerns

I just got 2 of the latest flat screen style nest thermostats from my local power co also. Each 25 plus tax. It was 62 i think shipped. Seeing that these are over a hundred a piece anywhere, i sprung and am happy. my house is hot water baseboard. When the house was built, thankfully the builder...

Rust on Mitsubishi Mini Split Evaporator Coil

In comparison to my 24kbtu fuji i installed 5 summers ago, and my 18kbtu pioneer i installed 4 summers ago, yours looks Horrible. i have zero corrosion on both mine. Sure the copper isnt shiny anymore but thats it. That looks like a defect in materials UNLESS you live on or near salt water. Then...

Pioneer mini split settings / question

On my pioneer, and my fujitsu, i have: heat, cool, auto settings. I NEVER use the auto feature. Reason is i found when either split is on auto, the window for temperature changes widens greatly. So say its on auto, and set to 72, neither split will turn on until it’s almost 76. Or say it chills...

    Shop heater for remote cabin

If the clock is off while the power is out, i suggest an uninteruptable power supply. Dunno if the unit will function on it dor long but its an option.

    Shop heater for remote cabin

I had to log in to post to this thread. To me, again to me, it’s OBVIOUS the wood stove is too small. I would get a wood stove DOUBLE the size you have now. One other possibility, if general access is available, is coal. a friend had a small coal stove and a LARGE shop and that coal stove would...

    Attic Space

The condenser will still see salt water air. Sure, a minisplit is a great candidate for your needs. Will it last longer than a window unit in salty environments? Probably not any longer than the window unit. Who’s to say until you try. I’d try a mr cool diy with precharged lineset. Close to plug...

    No frills pellet stove?

Is this thread strictly about heating the shop in your basement or your house as well from spillover heat into the house from the basement? my comments on each. wood stove: How old are you and are you fit enough to prepare wood for burning yearly? It’s obviously available to you, being in VT...

    Boiler Heat or Minisplits?

Living in upstate NY, our climates are similar. I have hot water baseboard fed by a natural gas boiler i just had swapped out 9-2020. this year it would have been 50 years old. And i have ductless mini splits for a/c in key areas of the house as well(I have NO room for ducts in my house)And...

Hanging a mini split on aluminum siding

Look up the history of my posts. I posted my pioneer install. I have aluminum siding. I located a stud in the immediate vicinity of where the condenser would be installed on the INSIDE wall by finding a drywall screw on the stud. I used a long 1/8” drill bit and drilled from inside out, through...

Attempted Highway Robbery by HVAC company

Im with the other guys doug. I appreciate you fixing it yourself. Great work. But $660 aint bad for what he quoted. most people don’t have our skills to do this kinda work. Feel good you saved the money. Feel good that you were quoted a FAIR price for that work. And use that companies services...

    Am I being oversold?

Absolutely, without a doubt. At minimum a good strong ceiling fan, preferably a floor fan moving air around as well.

    Am I being oversold?

It’s a garage. Do you want quick recovery when you open a garage door in the summer to pull a vehicle out? Or are you just trying to keep the garage cool and warm enough to consider it conditioned space, keep the tools from rusting when humid, and just make it comfortable when working? That will...

Finished installing my "non-DIY" mini split

Very well done sir. I installed my 18k btu 2 head pioneer on my outside garage wall like you. Even at full blast, i have to strain to hear it running. And it’s just a quiet hum. Actually my 24k btu fujitsu on a 6” concrete pad i poured, spaced away from my foundation is way louder. i think...
