Change from electric 5k watt 240v heater to hydronic unit heater?

A couple years ago i purchased a 5k watt, 240v electric heater for my garage. Installed, i think i have $120 in the entire install. $75 for the heater, the rest in water tight fittings, wire, and a breaker to my panel. 2 months ago i had my natural gas boiler replaced. With its replacement, i...

    Repurposing an old lift table?

My presto lift table. Called them with the serial number. It was made before their plant moved. Rhode island if i remember. Made in 1994 i think. Single phase 120v. 2000 lift capacity. By far the most handy tool i have in my garage/shop. Paid $300 off clist a few years ago. Drove like lightening...

    Repurposing an old lift table?

Those southworths are highly desirable and VERY EXPENSIVE new. 90% of the time there is an adjusting screw for the dump. In or out on the screw slows or quickens the dump. Do your homework and figure it out. I will almost bet thereÂ’s nothing wrong with the table. There are probably several...

    My diy air compressor aftercooler

I should take pics of my cooler i made for my sand blaster. It’s a run from the compressor, across my garage, and into a water seperator, and regulator. 22’ of slant fin tube from a piece i cut out of my house while remodeling. 3/4” pipe. Because sand blasters are air hogs, by the time air...

Mini Split with multiple air handlers

No, he means each unit has its own thermostat. Set all three heads for the same temp, and walk away. You won’t find a mini split system which has multiple heads controlled by one thermostat. Why would you want that anyway? In your example, if you set the temp to 68, what happens when one...

Which tig welder should I buy

Primeweld has a huge Market for higher end chinese machines. On par or a bit better than alphatig. Tons of online reviews. Most if not all say ultimately with the ck worldwide torch and upgraded foot pedal, the primeweld is a far better machine. I actually bought one 3 months ago, and JUST...

Catastrope! ...And Complete Evac & charge procedure Q's for Mini-Split

P.s. when adding freon(410a) you quickly and for a very short time ‘crack’ the tank valve, adding freon in small bursts to allow the freon to gas,off in the qkwik charge. You will likely need to run the compressor to pull in all the required freon. That is when this is done.

Catastrope! ...And Complete Evac & charge procedure Q's for Mini-Split

First, i am not an experienced a/c tech. But i did stay at a holiday inn expressonce. You need a precise amount of refrigerant in your minisplit. Not knowing how much is in the unit, you need to evacuate EVERYTHING. Linesets and condenser. Then add the appropriate amount freon by weight. 2nd...

Denali Aire 18,000 Btu Mini Split?

Well.. here is what i think. A comparable Pioneer unit at highseer.com is $828 w/16’ lineset kit. This unit is not $1026 - 11% making it $916, the rebate is in the form of a $110 STORE CHECK. You have to spend the ‘credit’ you are given at menards. Sure the lineset is precharged which can be...

My Pioneer Ductless Minisplit install is complete.

I use them in the shoulder season to keep the chill off the house, yes. Not often though. In upstate NY the shoulder season is short. After labor day it can stay warm through september but once oct 1st hits, it’s cold and the boiler has to be turned on. I have Ng hot water baseboard which i...

My Pioneer Ductless Minisplit install is complete.

Just wanted to pop in and update how these are doing. Since install, Everything has been perfect, units still put out ice cold air, no problems, and all is 100% perfect. On a little quirky side note, i noticed that if i want Either of the rooms at 72, i have to put the temp on the remote to...

New garage door opener and potentially spring upgrade, some questions please.

Yeah, the wifi 8500 series of the liftmaster are like $500 a piece, then $130 for the conversion to a torsion bar set up for me. So it’s a significant increase in over all costs to convert to torsion bar/85xx series liftmaster jack shaft opener. I’m having a hard time justiifying it. $400 total...

New garage door opener and potentially spring upgrade, some questions please.

Good morning. My girlfriend and her daughter have some issues with remembering to hit the garage door button while driving away to close the garage door when leaving the house. I came home early from work on Christmas eve at 1pm and the one door was up. Showing off my recently restored 13”...

Boat restoration, how to form this aluminum?

Its funny you mention a bead roller. I spent all last night pricing them out and looking for strait line channel dies. There are no channel dies i can find online. Fortunately i have a freshly restored 13” South bend lathe. It’s ready to go i just have to run power from the sub panel, purchase...

Boat restoration, how to form this aluminum?

Purchased 1976 Starcraft SuperSport yesterday. I’ll be doing a full restoration. This’ll be my 2nd Starcraft restoration. The green boat is mine. In the first 2 pics, you you’ll see that there is aluminum trim on the boat dashboard. These are images i found online. I am sure that this trim was...

Just curious. Why would you not insulate.

What is obvious is that there is more to consider other than a persons return on investment as far as savings on heating a building like a garage is concerned. Quick heating from a cold start, zero drafts in a well sealed building, comfort while working in the garage, cheaper more affordable...
