Needle Scaler, Who Makes A Good One?

I've got this one, pretty sure its a rebadged IR, had the first one for quite a while, 5+ years, no issues. Traded it in for a new one last fall-ish. Near daily use. https://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/mt1250/heavy-duty-pneumatic-straight-needle-scaler I picked up the HF compact unit...

    Aliexpress L socket wrenches

GM & FCA use 18mm as much as Ford does, Not really a newer thing. Brakes & suspension are typical.

    Matco Pro Non-Slip Sockets

IMO yes, they have saved me some trouble over time. The Astro Flank bite sockets grip in a similar way but tend to get stuck on whatever is being removed. Both grip in the center of the hex flat and can dig in. Flank bite sockets are also branded for Matco, FWIW. Turbo sockets only work one...

How does everyone store there punch and chisels in their tool chests?

https://www.menards.com/main/tools/tool-storage/socket-organizers-small-parts-bins/tool-shop-reg-6-compartment-small-parts-drawer-organizer/8366/p-1444421211353-c-9189.htm?tid=1e00003e-fa03-4c8f-b2a7-6373a24b34c5&ipos=17&exp=false This works pretty well for me, pin punches are still in the pouch...

    Matco USA Thinwall Impact Sockets

Depends on the socket(s) in question as to COO, but in general I've not had any real issues with any Matco sockets in general. I'm not sure who the OE for these thinwalls would be, possibly Lang. The majority of the other sockets are imported for the most part and can be broken down as...

    Matco USA Thinwall Impact Sockets

I would imagine they have the off corner engagement (opti-torque, flank drive, ete.), pretty much all sockets from the last 15 or so years do. I'd bite at a deal like that. Kinda odd to have a 14mm though.

Shallow vs. Semi-Deep vs. Deep Socket

Pretty much this, US made 1/4 shallows are roughly the same length no matter the brand (S-K, Snap-on, Craftsman/Danaher). Not much difference, aprox. 1/8", but enough to cause clearance issues at times for me. I have some1/4 drive low profile Snap-on's and they can be handy to have, under...

Question about torque angle with torque wrench

With my 3/8 drive Snap-on if you pause when using angle torque function, it will display current ft lbs in addition to the total angle achieved so far. Which is helpful to know so as not to max out the unit. The Matco 1/2 drive torque wrench (50-300ftlb) I have doesnt do this, but it will...

    Rate your tool truck brand

Yep, at some point in production they switched to 88 tooth, IIRC the pawl was marked 88. Likely this had to do with keeping the production lines for Matco & Armstrong the same to where the different tooth counts were not getting mixed up (IE a Matco 88 getting 60 tooth kit by accident). FWIW...

Hex bit holder to attach to your drill!

Somewhere years ago I had picked up a couple NOS Makita bit holders, used velcro to attach to the tool and elastic to hold the bits. Worked very well and could be swapped between tools by getting adhesive backed velcro from the store (Menards I think) and applying it to other tools.

Which long handle flex head ratchet do you use more, 3/8 or 1/4?

My primary 3/8 ratchet is a 12" locking flex Matco. I do have a 15" but use it as needed. For 1/4 drive a 6" locking flex is generally pretty handy. I have 9" & 12" locking flexes, the 12" gets used a bit more, mainly for "reach" on buried stuff. A 9" locking flex 3/8 in 1/4 body ratchet...

Getting the job done versus buying for the future. A tool Discussion

Similar experience, Higher quality stuff is simply better and nicer to use. If I have a need for some particular tool, I'll try and figure how often I'll use it and the likeliness of it breaking, ease of warranty if applicable. Some items could be considered semi-consumable (pin punches, bit...

    2 kinds of Snap-on KR-290s???

IIRC, around '89 to '94 or thereabouts was when they changed from friction to ball bearing slides. The KR 537/557 boxes I have are '79 &'80 dated, a Friend had the same set from the early '90's and they were ball bearing.

GM fuel tank strap (and other?) bolt removal trick.

Came up with this trick a while ago, tested it a couple times since and thought it post worthy. It works great on GM truck tank strap bolts (rear fuel tank strap bolt in particular, trucks & truck based SUV's). The cage nut tends to rot in half or break from rotting when removing said bolt...

Where do you prefer to purchase Milwaukee batteries from?

Most of the time Home depot, though Acme and Tooltopia have had deals I jumped on before. All depends on who has the best deal. Black friday is about the only time I bother to buy anything if I can help it. I did buy a pair of 4.0 M12's from Cripe off ebay, no issues with either. Cant say...

1/4" Locking Chrome Extensions - Matco?

Based on the Armstrong, Matco & S-K mix of random lengths & drive sizes I have they are all by the same OE. Pretty good chance AJ makes them. They do work rather nicely IMO.

Napa Carlyle/Homak RS Pro toolbox questions

Yeah, the MSC4 I had came with a Homak labled handle. I have a picture somewhere. Kinda funny in a way. Sort of reinforces the fact that alot of things come from the same chi-wan factory. FWIW, At the time, '15, Homak didnt offer full drawer carts under their own label.

Napa Carlyle/Homak RS Pro toolbox questions

I'd say a Masterforce box from Menards, not sure that's an option. A friend had picked up a Napa/Homak box, I dont remember if it was an RS pro or not. Seemed decent overall, not sure on long term as he upgraded after a couple years. The Matco carts that arent JSC models are Homak (or...
