Home Depot ending sale of Echo products?

I moved to the Las Vegas area in 2018. At that time, Lowes stocked an equal number of gas and electric, walk behind mowers. By 2020, they were stocking one gas powered option and all the rest were electric. The last two years, it's been all electric with no gas powered options at all. Currently...

    The New Yankee Worksop

Norm and his workshop were ok. Shows what you can do with knowledge, experience and every power tool under the sun. The one I really liked was Roy Underhill and his Woodwright Shop. Much more primitive and more interesting to me. One episode required a file to move to the next stage so Roy...

How about another Craftsman USA sneak peek?

...which is pretty much how I remember it being fifty years ago. I didn't have a lot of money to spend on tools then, but if I lost a Craftsman wrench or socket it wasn't a big deal. Run out to Sears and get a new one and they weren't priced like they were made of gold.

    Removing Fasteners with Over-sized Slots

Grab small piece of scrap metal of appropriate thickness to match slot. Cut, file or grind to shape to fit into recess. Grab it with vise grips and turn screw out.

Button lock pliers comparison on a tough job.

No surprise that the Cobras won. A junior high classmate was banned from organized wrestling when he deployed his signature "Cobra Hold" during a city meet! To this day, I cannot hear the word cobra without remembering that and chuckling to myself.

    Ok, maybe I haven't bought an antique ratchet in a while, but . . . $26,000?

I have a brother in law who made his living in antiques and collectibles. He commented that "As long as there are well paid people who don't know the value of a dollar, I'll be able to make a comfortable living." And he did!

    Ooof!

I live in Las Vegas where rain is pretty sporadic. In the 300 days or so between significant rain, the storm drains get buried in debris so when it does cut loose you get localized flooding. Everyone seems to think those grates are somehow self cleaning!

Help figuring out socket size for large bolt

Just a shot in the dark here but if it measures 1.38 across flats, I'd guess it requires a 1 3/8" (1.375) wrench or socket. The small extra increment (.005") is probably just rust.

Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT Do you heat your garage everyday?

At the old place,I kept the garage thermostat at 55° even when I wasn't down there. My garage cat had his own pet door and a bed up on one of the workbenches. After a long winter night of carousing, he would sleep the day away down in the garage. If I went down there to work, I'd boot it up to T...

    Channellock Nutbuster vs Knipex Raptor.

Exactly my situation so I packaged them up with another small lot of Channellock stuff and sold on CL.

    Channellock Nutbuster vs Knipex Raptor.

I've always thought that's what they were designed to do. Sort of a pliers manufacturers alternative to a pipe wrench. I've owned and used the 410 and they are rough as hell on whatever they grip. If you can get a Nutbuster on it though, and apply some leverage, it WILL turn!

what duplicate items do you have scattered around your shop?

Not in a shop setting but I keep multi bit screwdrivers, both regular and stubby, sprinkled about the home and car. I prefer Klein, but any brand will do as long as it has capability for 1/4 and 5/16 screw heads, as well as Phillips and straight. Ton of small jobs can be handled with these.

    Common Vehicle Fastener Sizes

Google the term "mad metrics" as it pertains to MG automobiles. It's about Morris buying the old Hotchkiss (French) engine tooling. Said tooling was set up for an old, French standard for fine thread metric. Morris used special fasteners with the French, metric thread form with a Whitworth head...

    Common Vehicle Fastener Sizes

That happens more often than you might think, especially on legacy products. I used to build and service a line of industrial gearboxes that originated in Taiwan. The older tooling they had acquired was all set up to drill and tap SAE. Because they were widely sold throughout Asia, and Asia had...

FT Worth TX Craftsman Tool release

So, in other words, if you want a quality, professional kit from SBD you'll still have to pony up the money for Proto or MAC. The new Craftsman offerings will be mostly talking pieces.

    Why 6pt and not 12pt?

My grandpa's era. Born 1891, died 1964. Plowed with a mule. Pulled a wagon with a team of horses. Used a pipe wrench on EVERYTHING cos that's all he had!

    WIHA sighting at Lowes

Apologies in advance for lack of photos. My nearest Lowes has a small display board of WIHA products now. Mostly bits, but waaaaay down at the bottom of the board, are pliers. Diagonals, needle nose, lineman and two different pump pliers, one self adjusting and one similar to Alligators. The...

FT Worth TX Craftsman Tool release

Exactly! I don't see how SBD can offer USA made, pro quality tools at a price point that undercuts Proto and MAC without cannibalizing sales from those product lines. If the MIUSA Craftsman prices are in line with Proto and MAC, I don't see them flying off the shelves at Lowes or ACE. I can't...
