    best paint stick

Yes more of a marker than a crayon. One that flows actual oil paint through a felt tip or roller ball or something to apply it. Like with a ball bearing inside to agitate the paint before application.

    best paint stick

I've tried a bunch of paint sticks for writing on fabric, vinyl, and marking tightened bolts and nuts. None of them seem to last very long and usually clog or thicken up and not apply the paint uniformly. Yeah I don't use them daily maybe a every couple of months or so, but I hate it when I...

    Cutting a wrench in half?

My vintage German motorcycle is the only one that has Dellorto Italian carbs. Mechanically it's a good feature but nothing in the on-board tool kit has a 22mm wrench for removing the float bowl nut. I bought a nice enough Tekton 22mm combo wrench that takes up too much space in the toolbox so i...

    Vinyl Seat Reconditioning?

I've not used any leather specific products on vinyl. I normally use Murphy's Oil and damp terry towels until the dirt stops coming up or all the soap is gone. Regular 303 protectant is what I finish with. I let it soak in for 10-15 minutes and buff off any excess. I used this treatment on a 50...

Tekton technical article, "JIS vs Phillips: Understanding Tip Geometry, Myths, and Fastener Compatibility" Nov 2025

In the '70's I changed all the cross point fasteners on my Yamaha dirt bike for Allen heads due to buggering the heads with my craftsman Phillips driver. At the time I thought that the japanese metallurgy was at fault. IDK it might have been the driver. That said... nothing fits a cross point...

    Anyone else like Channellocks?

I bought a pair of 718 duckbills on a whim and they've proven to be pretty useful. I had a pair of the classic slip joint 432's but they got lost or stolen. I have a Knipex Cobra but the 432's are quicker and better for some jobs. I have a pair of the cute 6.5" 412's in my RV tool bag. Most of...

    Harbor Freight TV ad?

Nice ad. Well shot but does this bother any one but me? There's a guy with an angle grinder making sparks (of course) grinding the cleats off the top of the diamond plate. Sure I've ground diamond plate to make it fit something, but I've never had a need to grind the cleats off the top. Kinda...

Anybody use this type of battery lifter?

Same here. I used a red flexible strap for years but replaced it with one like this for a chest high battery replacement lift into a 4runner.

Are there any nut drivers longer than 6" (shaft) and shorter than 18"

Nutdriver to open the motor housing of the Panaflex 35mm camera. Likely supplied by Xcelite. And yes the shaft is slightly bent but I can't remember what did it.

? Pressure relief valve on outdoor spigot leaking

It's not a pressure release valve. It's a backflow preventer. It prevents your hose from acting like a siphon and bringing non potable water into your house facets. It's relatively cheap to replace as plumbing goes. Drill out the grub screw or cut the knurled brass collar with a dremel.

Sub-$200 pressure washer - useful features?

Wife saw on CNN or Wired the Westinghouse ePX3500 electric pressure washer. I was initially (mentally) dismissive of the "Westinghouse" moniker. It kind of pisses me off to see cheap brands trading on the reputation of once great American companies. A perfect example is "Bell and Howell". The...

    Which Vessel power screwdriver?

Back in the day I had a handy little B&D power screwdriver. It was great for tedious tasks like cover plates on outlets and light switches. Low torque, fine thread stuff. NiCad battery I think. I've plowed through the Vessel offerings but I'm still confused as to the best choice for my...

What do you guys use vise grips for these days?

My go-to tool when nothing else works. Also the dremel. I used my mini visegrips for shift lever once on my dirt bike.

    The Ultimate Mobile Mechanic Setup

I've met him and he seemed to be a good guy, especially by LA standards. I didn't know he lived in Newport. That's pretty high cotton. For some reason I thought he lived up on Mulholland. My wife worked at St Joe's hospital in Burbank for a number of years and I used to see arrive in the...

    Sockets!: Need to start over - 1/4 - 3/8 - 1/2"

Yeah good point here. I had a lot of chrome SAE 1/2" drive in the '80's and I was hand working on US classic cars and trucks. I think now I'd just go with impacts. I'm just using 1/4" and 3/8" drive for everything.

What kind of tile does Toyota use in their dealership driveways?

I noticed that my local Toyota dealership uses an attractive gray speckled tile in the drivethru bays where you leave your car off with the service advisors. It always looks clean and attractive. I assume it's some sort of industrial product, but I haven't got a clue where to source it or what...

    What's the Best Fold-Up Sawhorse

When I lived in Atlanta, my key grip made me the best pair of lightweight folding sawhorses I'd ever seen. When I moved to LA somehow I left them in my storage shed. Since then I've always been looking for a set of plans to build something similar. They were strong and ingenious. I've googled it...

    Tool Brand Marketing vs. Usage

I like Klein too and have a pretty complete set. I've used them for auto work if I needed a stubby or P3 but generally I prefer hard handles for greasy or solvent rich work. My red Felos usually get the call or my one vessel megadora. I don't worry about "marketing". Most of my tools are...
