    Wood top for tool box?

I am not knocking the oil finish, but I have been very happy with a plywood work surface that I coated with spar urethane. It dried glossy and it’s tough as nails.

Making pole extension for pole saw

The owner’s manual says you can use up to a 100 ft extension cord with 16 ga. wire. For 150 ft, upgrade to 14 ga. cord.

12V Bench Charger as a Power Supply

You might consider a ham radio power supply. They normally provide 13.8 volts at pretty high amperage ratings. As a bonus the power is typically very clean. I own three to power my radio gear and I think one of them does a true 13.8 volts at 40 amps. One has a switch that sets it to always stay...

Can anyone date this old Milwaukee bench grinder?

It may be manufactured by Loefler Electric of Toledo, Ohio for Milwaukee. It may be the equivalent of Loefler’s model 3B125. It’s in the Loefler 1952 catalog. Image at vintagemachinery.org website. Note the LE in the middle of the serial number. I suggest that stands for Loefler Electric.

Can anyone date this old Milwaukee bench grinder?

There are some photos of similar grinders on vintagemachinery.org that suggest your grinder may go back to at least 1949. Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp was founded in 1924. The fact that the number plate on your grinder simply says “Milwaukee, Wisconsin” suggests a date before zip codes were a...

Anyone have recommendations for a sticker/decal machine?

Dymo and Brother make affordable printers (label makers) that print on tape. Dymo has a cartridge that prints white text on clear. I have the Brother version and it works well.

    2023 Garage Sale Thread

After the good score yesterday, I took the wife for a second visit to the same sale. It’s not that far from my house and I was really looking for the power cord to the ham radio. I didn’t find it but I found a few more things. Two power strips, a brand new Dell USB mouse, and a Wilson leather...

    Minimum unit of power washer

At only 320 psi I would not have high hopes that it would be very effective. There are some fairly small and inexpensive electric units that are in the 1500-2000 psi range. That would be a minimum for me if I was buying it. And I would not consider them any more than homeowner/DIYer grade.

    Need Some Drill/Driver Advice

I enjoy my Dewalt DCF885. It is relatively small and light but has plenty of power to drive deck screws. It’s the one I grab first. I built a deck last year, a couple of them actually and drove hundreds of screws. The batteries just last and last. That being said, I’ve had it a few years. There...

    Lawn Tractor - Battery Powered

If I were thinking of going electric and wanted confidence of 20 years of parts availability I would look at John Deere. I think at this time they only have a zero turn available for preorder and it’s pricey. But you can still buy parts for 40 year old JD stuff. But I may be a little biased...

    DeWalt band saw tires

I bought my Dewalt Bandsaw in late 2018 and just had to replace a tire about a month ago. That’s about 4 1/2 years of very occasional use. I ordered replacements from Amazon but I don’t think they are OEM. They fit and they work, so far.

Stirring up a hornets nest: brand loyalty, or free for all?

Ryobi and Dewalt here. I am just a homeowner and DIYer, don’t make a living with power tools. I think these two platforms complement each other quite well. I have more “yard” maintenance stuff from Ryobi and apprecite just how many tools they have. My Ryobi battery tire inflator gets used a lot...

Craft C-18 Alloy 9/16 combo wrench (maker?)

I have never seen amy Craft branded tools in the wild down here in the south. I do go to estate sales, garage sales, and flea markets occasionally and I will be looking for an example.

Craft C-18 Alloy 9/16 combo wrench (maker?)

I was just a kid in the early 60s but didn’t “Made in Japan” have a negative connotation back then? Kind of like “Made in China” does today? Some of that was quality related and I am sure that the generstion hat experienced Pearl Harbor wouldn’t have wanted anything Japanese.

Craft C-18 Alloy 9/16 combo wrench (maker?)

Many, if not all of the tools in that catalog have model numbers that correspond to SK tools. I never knew there were such blatant knockoffs. Interesting that the Craft Tool Company was listed as Philadelphia 30, Pa. This 1964 catalog was certainly designed and printed in 1963, the year that...
