I switched over to LED lights powered by 18650 lithium batteries. Lots of light in a small package. There are several good brands but I have been very happy with my Solarforce lights. Good quality and good value for the money.

There is one pawn shop near me that usually has several Williams or Proto jumbos and I can usually get them for $10-$15 each. I don't have a complete set yet, but am accumulating them one or two at a time.
