I found this interesting Atkins No 4 hammer today. I discovered upon getting it home and doing some research it is a saw set hammer. It seems fairly rare but also quite valuable...one person was asking 499 on ebay a couple years ago for a no 4 and no5 set. Curious to hear if others have ideas...

Picked up this Atkins No 4 hammer. Anyone know what the history is, and if they have value or what they are worth? This one has clean faces/edges under the surface rust...and a visible logo. Pretty cool little hammer.

I just sold that exact grinder. Based on research I came to the conclusion it was circa 1959. The cast iron ones like that are really cool...and heavy! I am not sure what year they changed to the aluminum body.

Finally finished my 1951 Wliton 9450 vise! It has about 3 coats of Flood Penetrol. This gave it a natural industrial look and seems to be a really hard clear coat that won't flake off. Looks good!! The vise is around 62 pounds with 4.5" jaws, and 18 inches long.

just picked up a 586 for 20 bucks on facebook yard sale. Awesome grinder!!

There was never any pin in this one...probably made in the late 40s early 50s (with chicago lettering). The U in end of the bar actually presses up against the handle inside the handle body....I guess that acts as the pin, holding the bar in place.

I need help with a 2" wilton baby bullet. The main screw gets loose from the spindle. At its end, it is a little sheared (this is the end that is 'notched' to fit around the handle. How would one fix this? see pic.

Super rare...I sold this one on ebay. Made by SK in the 1930's..."BRAZIL". 1/4 inch set. I have seen larger ones too.

Wonder if it would work well on an iron table saw top? It would definitely keep the rust from reforming. But not sure if you could get it smooth enough....I would think you need a really perfectly smooth surface on that. Others may have better opinions.

beltdrive- what’s the drawer full of new suitcase handles? My business is vintage guitar parts. Also case restoration parts. Those are new old stock BRUCE handles...made in PA probably in the 80's.

Is it easy to find? I bought it off the shelf at Home Depot. ACE and Walmart also carry it. I was schooled about it by some antique dealers at Brimfield flea market who were using it to retain and 'lock' the natural relic look of some antiques.

That Morgan looks awesome! Love the swivel jaw! I had a Chas Parker like that that was really tough to un-stick that swivel part!

Here's a couple more projects I used Flood Penetrol on. The first is a large vintage steel drawer froma closed mill. It has 2 coats. I was really pleased with the hard shiny finish it left over a rustic surface...nice antique look that is "locked". Same with the Square D on/off switch from...

Well, I'm pretty much an introvert anyway, so I will just continue the conversation by myself and post my projects using Flood Penetrol as a method for putting a clear coat on bare metal. Then hopefully people who research FP can see this and try a product that is better than Linseed oil...

Penetrol may be a flow agent for paint but people are also using it as a primer and clear coat by itself. I took the plunge yesterday and painted my Wilton 4.5 vise. Looks good...it stayed shiny. It is almost dry. i will give it one more coat. It may be a better solution than linseed oil...

Found this on the jalopy journal... "Stuff using oil - it never fully dries and gets everywhere. If you go for the waxed look expect to have a really shiny crotch and you'll have to keep polishing out the rust, eventually you'll lose motivation and the rust will eat in too far to be polished...

I dig the MF hacksaws. This one hangs in my office. (Wonder who is the source of these since I have seen the same saw with other branding, such as BluMol). Also have MF hammers, alphabet and number punch sets, chisels...great quality!!
