Custom 3D printed multi-color tool organizers

Hello everyone. This is a project my partner and I have been developing over the last few months. As I get older, I have less and less patience looking for the right tool when I need it, and even less patience for trying to read small, hard to read markings. This was the impetus for my initial...

Looking to purchase affordable rotary (quiet) air compressor. What do you think of this model?

Hi. Mine is working well. It doesn't need much space around it, maybe a foot per side. It has wheels, so I can pull it out a bit if I need to get at anything. I would suggest using flexible discharge hose with union for this reason. These units do run cooler, even the air output is cooler. I...

    2" X 12" X 13 16" on center How much weight will it hold?

Most decks fail by pulling away from house. Shear strength is pretty high with steel anchors in concrete but a bad anchor can pull out. I really don't trust the cheap wedge type anchors. They never seem to tighten positively. It is pretty easy to set an epoxy stud, the main provision is that the...

    2" X 12" X 13 16" on center How much weight will it hold?

I'm not really sure you need to add extra floor joists. You might be better served by increasing thickness of subfloor to avoid sagging or puncture of floor. You may find it easier to install two thinner LVLs and screw together in place. Man handling those into place may be a challenge

Construction Types for new 30x40 shop - looking for advice

Yah, talked to zoning today. House is currently 1423 sf, existing garage is 400 sf, so that would only leave me 350 sf. But, if I used a roofed walkway to the garage, and to the shop, all good! Basically no limit as long as I stay out of offset areas. Glad I got an answer, moving was starting to...

    2" X 12" X 13 16" on center How much weight will it hold?

I meant to mention ledger attachment. Hangers are probably plenty strong, but attachment to foundation is critical. The good news is poured concrete wall is a good place to attach to. Personally, I would epoxy anchors to wall to match loading. Less likely to pull out than expansion anchors. But...

Construction Types for new 30x40 shop - looking for advice

There are some great looking buildings above! I guess my very first stumbling block is zoning. I have 1.17 acres, and the building would be far enough away from the lot lines. However, there is some regulation about the size of outbuildings as a percentage of principal building. This may really...

OK. I modeled your joists and beam in BC Calc. These reports are just looking at the floor structure. You will probably have to add other loads like walls loads at end of cantilever. In short, joists at 16" o/c are fine for 40/10 lbs/sf live/dead load. I entered 8" on center, and even though the...

BC calc does take a little bit to learn, but is very powerful. Don't select wet conditions, or all your lumber choices will disappear. Choose your region, so most commonly available wood products will show up. Start with floor joists. You can design one joist if they are all the same. Enter the...

Construction Types for new 30x40 shop - looking for advice

Hi. I am looking to build a 30x40 shop on my property, I'm thinking 12 foot walls. Mostly for machining and fabrication work, some automotive. I'd really like to keep the cost down by providing most of the labor. I am a contractor, and have built ICF homes, large additions, etc. I also weld and...

https://www.bccalc.com/ Sign up for free. Load lumber for your region. You can select sawn wood in addition to engineered wood. You can model your joists and beam with loads applied and print a report showing passed or failed. I use these reports to submit for permits and they accept them no...

Solid Works for Makers (hobby license): 3D modeling and CAM, 50% off ($24/year)

You can't beat that deal. Regular solidworks is $4000+, Maker is a full version, but file output is somewhat limited. It does output step files and 3D formats. So it will basically do pretty much everything.
