Garage Door Lock, ain’t never seen this before

The screw holding on the spring tab/stop fell out. That’s how the handle was able to slip out of the housing.

Garage Door Lock, ain’t never seen this before

Nothing bizarre or out of order, I’ve just never had one apart to see how it works! A few months ago I lubed the door lock because it was making that “fingernail on the blackboard” screech I’m sure you have all heard. Immediately, smooth effortless door locking on the non-electric garage door...

Which one of these drawers feels like quality

If you have an IKEA nearby, go to their kitchen department and look at their cabinet drawers. The ball bearing slides are built into the drawer sides and are heavy painted steel. A supplied particle board bottom completes the drawer component. The front you will have to make yourself or buy a...

    Re-grouting tile

It’s a lousy job. I have done two kitchens, my sons and ours. Here is my dust mitigation system and the thread that shows how I made it. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/cyclone-separator-for-shop-vac-compact-setup.337292/

Building a better Oil Pressure and Temperature Gauge

Don’t stop at oil pressure and temperature, you need to be monitoring your transmission too!

    The New Atomic World HQ

So, I’m guessing some floor coating, wall covering, vehicle lift and a retune of the Porsche to accommodate the change in altitude. Hot rods and electric vehicles will be OK. What is your vehicle list these days? What made the cut and will be in the new shop? And what are you now shopping for...

Do you provide food/drinks to a work crew?

My mom did it for her employees and that is where I learned it. I have had many show appreciation with drinks, food and tips when I was working, and it was always appreciated. I learned to not refuse these gifts as was sometimes told to do, the giver gets as much as the receiver most times...

Shop Safety Supplies - Professional PPE Megathread, Reference, FAQ 🧯🥽⛑️👩‍🔬🦺

Whitworth, we recently bought the harbor freight rock tumbler. It runs 24hrs. A day for a week for each grit polishing compound. Do you have a link for a suitable thermo protected extension? That housing is hot when it runs!

    Amazon Prime Day

Question, if I am shopping generally on Amazon and not through a link, can I just add ?tag=atomicindus08-20 to the item extension and then support the GJ with my purchases? Years ago a radio station I liked had an affiliate link on their web page. If you clicked on it it took you to Amazons...

    Extension cord repair ideas

Use the search function! I did, and came across this thread with this great suggestion by Dustball, 👍 I was prepared to start my own thread about getting a waterproof four gang outlet for my 50 ft. 12 ga. Extension cord. I fit it with a gasketed four gang box and sealed around the standard...

Exhaust fan good idea or no

“ Unfortunately not enough space to partition it off very easily” As I understand it now, there is no attic space. You could, as an experiment, partition off the ceiling space, maybe using silver reflective tarps, ventilate that with fans, and see if that lowers your temperature.

Exhaust fan good idea or no

I would think if the fan is taking air from the shop “conditioned” space it will not help any. If, there is a separate attic space, then absolutely it would make a difference and should be combined with continuous soffit vents or opposite side openings for air replacement. Otherwise, the “attic”...

    Best miter saw stand

I have two, both home built but I have sawn extensively on my 8’ folding plastic table. The key is, as others have said is to have support wings. 1st is my in garage cart made from an old set of wood desk drawers. A plywood wing mounted with a piano hinge on the left side flips up and is...

    Sam’s Club -VS- Costco

Thanks to all who replied! We signed up to Costco this morning. After discussing all the details the nice young man helping us signed us up for the executive membership. The first half is $65 a year and the executive membership is an additional $55, but you get a bonus for signing up making the...

Ding filling in woodwork before painting

I believe I have Icing, polyester glaze filler. You mix it with a hardener just like bondo. It sets up within five minutes or less. It is white with a pale green hardener. It should cover with one coat of primer. Bigger holes I use the Water Putty. I had a vintage table with fragile plywood legs...

Show me your top compartment wasteland

That’s really cool! I had to zoom in to understand what you did. Sadly if I had that modification there is no room to the side for the sliding shelf to move over to.

How hard is it to sharpen drill bits freehand on a diamond stone or do you need a drill doctor?

I was taught how to do it on a bench grinder as a teen. If I need a precision hole I will use only a good bit. If I’m boring holes in the frame of your car to install a trailer hitch,I’ll resharpen as many times as I can. Relieving the back side of the spiral to Create a split point is a key...

    Sam’s Club -VS- Costco

Re. The gasoline octane ratings. This would be another reason for us to switch to Costco (closer distance). My Avitar 1968 Chrysler 300 with 440 v8 engine and 1970 MGB both prefer premium gas. The Sam’s Club gas has ethanol, so I typically avoid that unless driving the cars a lot. What usually...
