Venting auto compressor drain in wall

I put my auto drain on an outlet timer. Doesn't run from 8pm to 6am. If I'm running the compressor during those hours something has gone badly wrong in my world.

    Garage Foundation in flood zone

I don't know. For every falling down shack you do notice I'd bet there are 10 buildings that were put up before you or I were born without permits or inspections and will be here long after we are dust. I tend to not like people telling me what I can do on dirt I "own". I think the whole...

Question hooking power to disconnect at meter

Usually there is an access tab for each side separately. That's a new one to me. When you get ready to hook it up the two hots will go to the breaker you add. Both the neutral and the EGC from the MHF will go to the ground bar that may or may not be there. If there is no ground bar then there...

    Standby generator: Power whole house?

A 7500 harbor freight unit ran my whole house (2ACs, fridge, tv, and well). With AC units it is all about starting them as running they actually don't draw that much (my 3 ton units each draw 14 amps running). That being said one of my upgrades last year was to put in a Generac 22kW unit with...

Can PVC LQ be installed inside Stud Walls

I'd put a string in it before I put it in. I'm assuming you want flex because it will have bends (otherwise pvc or met would work). Flex with bends inside a wall is going to be a nightmare to fish later (thus the recommendation to pull a string in it now). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How to decommission a multi wire branch circuit?

Get two 20-20 tandems. Replace the breaker in the panel. Disconnect the red wire at both ends and add a jumper (or replace the outlet) in the kitchen. Bad news is you probably don't have an GFCI there now but latest code requires one. Up to you what you want to do with that piece of information...

    Garage Foundation in flood zone

Obviously my sarcasm didn't come through in writing. I do think that if you own the dirt you should be able to build what you want where you want how you want, but we don't live in a free country anymore.

    Help Choosing the right lift

Had this problem with getting a buddies 350Z on my lift. Solution I came up with is four pieces of 2X12 laid out on the floor. Gives an extra 1"1/2 which was plenty more than we needed.

Secondary wires and gas pipe in same trench?

Not an issue. 12" of separation and you're good to go. I generally like gas on bottom. That way on the off chance that someone digs into it someday they get the less blowupable stuff first and hopefully stop. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    upgrade to 200amp?

If it were me I'd get a 200A 40 space panel for the garage. Will not cost you much more than anything smaller and can be had for under $150 easily. Feed it with #2 Al from a 60A breaker in the existing panel in the house. Hook it up and see how it goes. If you are constantly tripping the breaker...

    WaterLine to Workshop

I used 3/4" PEX in a 1 1/2" PVC conduit sleeve. If it ever leaks or breaks pull it out and pull a new one in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Garage Foundation in flood zone

I've got some rural property that is supposedly in a flood zone. It has been in the family long enough that the deed was signed over to us by the Spanish. It has never flooded. Those maps are based on some pretty sketchy information in some places. I'm sure the people at FEMA whose job it is to...

Can anyone recommend a concrete guy in South Texas?

Well that's not really fair because my slab was a special child. I used 4000 psi concrete on an engineered 6"-12" deep slab with extra bar and several beams due to the soil conditions here (clay which has a habit of shifting with moisture content changes). I can tell you that on the external...

    Gargage Surge Supressor

Well here's the bad news. If your equipment (your transformer or any of the services connected to it including your neighbors) take a direct strike you're screwed. There is nothing in the world that is going to save your equipment. The energies involved are just too high. What SPDs can do is...

    Power conditioner needed?

This could be something as simple as a setting in your UPS. Mine (all APC) have settings in them for minimum "return to utility" voltage. From the factory they are set higher than what you'll get out of a generator. Mine had an adjustment that was suggested in the manual if you were planning to...

Can anyone recommend a concrete guy in South Texas?

    200 amp service.

400' is a long run. You're going to be looking at some large wire to keep the voltage drop manageable. At 400' the minimum you'd need is 350MCM Cu or 500MCM Al. You could get away with a smaller neutral if the legs are well balanced at the shop but it's still going to cost a pretty penny...

    Pole barn question

My design philosophy on my building has a lot to do with my lifespan. I'm in my 30s so barring accident I will be using this thing for about the next 35-40 years. That's why I'm building for it to last that long. If I were in my 50s where money was tighter facing retirement and useful life (to...
