    The VISES of Garage Journal

I made some copper jaws for my Wilton 400S today. I'll probably have to repaint my vise again and I think I'll pick black this time.

Wright wrenches 915 set (grip 2)

Some people have never used a regular SK next to a regular Wright and it shows lol. My SK wrenches are my backup wrenches now.

    Machine vise questions

I have a swivel base on my mill and have never once turned it. I've been thinking about buying a second vise or removing the base. The only reason I haven't removed it yet is that it's trammed in perfectly.

    Fairmount 12pt Line Wrenches Why?

My most used line wrench is a Snap-on 3/4 12 point for injector lines. There's only been one time that it felt like it might slip and I switched to my 6 point to break it loose. Sometimes there's not enough room to to get the next turn on a 6 point.

Wright wrenches 915 set (grip 2)

I bought polished 7-22 mm set last year and bought satin SAE 5/16 to 1-1/4 not too long ago. The Wright wrenches are longer than my standard SK ones but shorter than the long pattern. I've been happy with the purchase and use them everyday.

    Hydraulic hose crimper

This past week I needed 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2" hoses made. Some were NPT, JIC, heavy din and flat face o-ring. It would cost a fortune to have all those hoses on hand plus fittings. Fittings and hoses have gotten stupid high lately.

    Hitch vise

The leg sits on the ground so it's a little more stable than using only the receiver hitch. I could raise the vise up off the ground and drive but I take it out. I can lower my tailgate and then I have a mobile bench too. I figured it would be handy to have a good vise out in the field but...

    Hitch vise

I made one that goes into the hitch as well but mine is adjustable and sets on the ground. The only downside is my vise is a Reed 204R and can be a little heavy setting it up.

Hydraulic crimpers for 6 - 2/0 awg with properly sized dies?

I have a cheap 12 ton Amazon one and am happy with it. I usually have to use one size smaller on the hex die and crimp it 75% of the way and then turn it 1/6 turn. I end up with a nice hex and doesn't pull out.

    Fluid Film permanently banned!

Hogs is just one smell that you can't get out of your clothes or boots. When I walk into a FSA building, I can tell if a hog farmer has been in that day. Beef I hardly notice unless they been fed distillery slop and dairy is only a little different smell but I get used to it quickly.

    Fluid Film permanently banned!

The smell of penetrating oil and Fluid Film has never bothered me and don't mind the smell. The only smell that I can't tolerate is a hog farm. Growing up and living on a farm makes smells go unnoticed.

Introducing Pinless Universal Impact Extension Sockets That Deliver More Torque

It makes sense that Astro releases the 1/2" drive extensions after I just bought the regular set. I bit the bullet and ordered the 3/8 version last week and was surprised how heavy the box was. They seem extremely well built.

    Air Hammer

I have the 498K Thor and thinking about getting the 401K Thor to replace my HF Chief Hammer. For the money, they're hard to beat.

I what scenario do you prefer or need a locking extension?

On certain John Deere tractors, adjustment to the 3 point hitch is done through a hole over top the differential housing. I want to make sure the socket stays on the extension and not drop in oil. I use to use electrical tape and a locking extension makes it easier.

    Experience with Snap-on warranty?

I called one time about an old ratchet but I had to pay for a rebuild kit. No big deal because it was $10 with free shipping. Since then, I have found a dealer nearby and he'll warranty tools without question but I'm not bringing in junk and I've bought several items from him.

Old vs New Snap On Line Wrenches

My great uncle gave move a set of Snap-on 12 point line SAE wrenches and 6 point SAE with the fat open end. The 3/4 12 point is my most used line wrench for injector lines. If they're very tight, I'll use a 6 point but the 12 point helps to get into tight places. My Snap-on line wrenches might...

    O Ring assortment's that don't ****?

I buy my o-rings from Hercules Sealing Products. Usually I have to buy them in bulk but they're high quality and have any kind I'll ever need.

    Tire Mounting Lube / paste.

My pulling tractor has over 300 screws in my rims to keep the tires from slipping. It takes a while to install but it's better than the alternative of not doing them.

    Chose Vintage Reed Vise(s)

I have a Wilton 400S and Morgan 45 I have restored I use daily. The Morgan was my grandfather's so it'll never leave. My 204R is my field vise and turns my tailgate into a work bench. One day I plan on having a welding table on wheels with a 2C hanging on it.

    Chose Vintage Reed Vise(s)

I haven't had any luck either. They're too far away or beat up beyond repair or way overpriced.
