    LP90 issues.

I trimmed my spring a couple of twirls on my 3/8 and it's been great ever since. That was probably 3 years ago and never has slipped or skipped. My 1/4 and 1/2 models didn't require any modifications.

    Ratchet Recommendations. New or Old?

Olsa is 90, just like the SK LP90. Has it ever been confirmed that AJ makes the LP90 and Olsa ratchets? It's my best guess that they do, but it's only a hunch. I heard Wright were making sockets for SK after SK moved out of Illinois so it makes sense that someone else also made their ratchets.

Icon 3/8" split beam torque wrench

I have the 1/2" version just for lug nuts and nothing critical. The handle is a little short and the lock off tab is spline so the knob has to be turned just right for it to fold completely down. I do like the flex part and the high tooth ratchet. I own a 3/8 PI and don't have a problem...

Quality 12 point socket set sae

I bought a set of Carlyle deep 12 point in SAE and metric. I needed a 3/8 deep for a part I made and NAPA had it in stock. Liked them enough I bought the metrics later. My shallow set is vintage Blackhawk and Indestro Super.

SPI or Fowler... Discuss amongst yourselfs

I have a Shars co-axial indicator and I have been pleased with it except when the locking screw stripped out. I just tapped it for a bigger hole and used an Allen screw bolt. It's looks just like the Fowler one but the dial is completely white.

    Variable Face Pin Spanner Recommendation

I've bought a few for hydraulic cylinders and they're not terrible for a new USA Williams or Martin. That's what I would buy if only needing one size.

Needing a new 1/2 inch air powered impact wrench

I have the Thor 2 in 3/4" and I have no complaints.

What is this socket extension for?

That reminds me of a special tool to tighten the bolts for a John Deere two cylinder.

Went to a dozen pawn shops in the last two days, here's what Ive found

I bought this at the local pawn shop last week for $20. It was listed for $39. I asked the owner what he wanted and after he plugged it in, said $20. I've bought a few things from this shop before. The asking price is always high but if you ask, the price drops quick. I bought a Snap-on straight...

    Impact wrench questions.

I farm and have a farm shop. I actually like air tools when I'm in the shop. Out in the field, battery is really handy. I like using my 3/4 Thor and 3/8 Nano in the shop. A 1/2" mid torque would be a nice addition though. I wouldn't like packing a high torque around all day when the mid torque...

    Reed Vise Nut Interchangeability

If it was mine, I would be tempted to make a new spindle and then make a nut out of Acme thread. It's probably cost prohibitive if you have to pay someone though.

Which of these two lathes would you take home today? LeBlond / Sebastian

I have a 1953 Leblond 17x54. The one pictured appears to be bigger, 19 or 21 by 80 maybe? I have had great luck with mine but it does have some wear. The ways aren't hardened like the later models. It has either a L0 or L1 mount which is an improvement over threaded chucks but backing plates...

Affordable 3/8 drive metric impact socket set?

I have Astro Nano up to 24mm and then Icon deep well up to 19mm I think. I went with the Icon because I could get them locally and no skips. I wish it went up to 22 at least though.

1/2 long handle flex head recommendations

I have a 24" SK LP90 and a Snap-on 25"(?) locking flex. I bought the SK off the steals and deals page a few years ago and it hasn't let me down. The Snap-on I got used from the pawn shop for $150 and I give it a slight edge over the SK because of the thicker handle. If you pick the Olsa ratchet...

Project Farm Flare Nut Wrench Review posted today 4/8/24

I have a set in SAE but I usually use my Snap-on ones because my SO are flare on one side and same size open on the other. I have no complaints but I never have tested them against the SO. My great uncle gave me his old SO ones and that's why I grab them first.

Project Farm Flare Nut Wrench Review posted today 4/8/24

I have Snap-on in SAE, SK in metric and Snap-on in metric flare crows feet. I wouldn't mind replacing my SK with Snap-on but in my experience, rusted brake lines make the best wrenches round off. Just the other day, my Snap-on 1/2" line wrench failed me but I don't think any wrench would have...

Which style of piston ring compressor?

The Lisle one looks handy. I have the old style band clamp I bought from Napa years ago and it works the best for me because I work with pistons larger than 5". I may pick up the Lisle for under 5" though. I have the clamp with ratcheting pliers and haven't been impressed. The largest size is...

Vise Identification Help - and - Who Repairs Vises?

I've fixed a few vises before. Unfortunately that one isn't really worth the cost to repair. If I was mine, and if I'm looking at it right, I would buy a tapered pin and reattach the spindle to the threaded rod that way. Drill the right size hole, use a tapered reamer next and then install the...

Fixing my transmission jack and engine hoist… hydraulic cylinder seals

I got tired of paying Air Hydro twice as much when I was already giving them part numbers. I cut out the middle man and saved money. Hercules' website and catalog makes it very easy to find the right seal if you know the dimensions. CRC Distribution is another good source for seals, chrome bar...

Fixing my transmission jack and engine hoist… hydraulic cylinder seals

I created an account and order seals online. I can either pick them up if I'm in a hurry or have them shipped. I'm about an hour away from one of their warehouses. I've got all the tools to measure even if the seal is missing and a lathe to modify barrels or glands if need be.
