Project Farm tests flex-head ratchets (and one roto-head)

These tests can be fun to watch but they're really not that helpful. I like my SK LP90s and Snap-on Dual 80s and use them daily. Todd really likes the GW ratchets and they do well in his tests. In my experience, I hate GW ratchets because of the sloppy heads, detents and will occasionally...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I bought a Reed the other day on an online auction. Paid $81.62 for it and it seems in good shape. It had an old gray paint job but everything was painted and that bugged me. The extra paint on the slide made it a little stiff. I stripped it to bare metal and started over. I always liked Reed...

REED R Series. Post your Reed date stamps.

I've been wanting a Reed for a while but haven't came across one until an online auction a few days ago. I picked up a 204R, date code April 1945. It's in good shape for the age. It was painted gray when I picked it up this morning but it was an old paint job and whoever painted it, painted the...

    Is Thorsen any good?

My 3/8 one is smooth but heavier back drag. It looks like new though so it's probably not broke in. It didn't say made in the USA. I don't know if Thorsen made it overseas or if it just wasn't listed.

    Is Thorsen any good?

I have a 3/8 Thorsen open gear ratchet and a 1/4 Action made by Thorsen. I still use the Action one occasionally. It has lowest back drag of any 1/4 ratchet I own.

Collectable Craftsman wrenches / eBay Dreamer !

I saw a set of Craftsman socket wrenches for sale on Facebook Marketplace. I really wanted them until I saw the price. They were twice as much as buying new Facom who I believe made them for Craftsman.

Help me pick a new 1/2 flex head ratchet

My memory was correct then. I knew it was more than the 36 tooth Craftsman but not a high tooth ratchet by today's standards. If I walked into Napa and saw that ratchet on the shelf for that price, I probably wouldn't leave the store without it.

    Best Garage Pump Hand Cleaner?

My Snap-on bottle lasts me almost a year so I consider that fairly cheap. I tried some Texas Petroleum hand cleaner and it works well too and doesn't require water. It works great when I don't have access to water. The downside is that they only really want to sell it in bulk, like 6 gallons at...

Help me pick a new 1/2 flex head ratchet

I found my 25" Snap-on Locking Flex at a pawn shop. You could tell it was used but overall it was in good shape and no missing chrome. I gave $150 for it. I have the straight version of the Carlyle posted above. I want to say it's like 48 teeth? It's a decent ratchet but I'm not a huge fan of...

Tool hauls brands you look for and brands you pass up

If I'm at a flea market, I'll look at anything. I usually pass on anything Craftsman. Not because I think they're poor quality, but because they're most likely overpriced.

    Best Garage Pump Hand Cleaner?

I get it for around $30 a jug. Local shop will buy it in bulk and will sell me a jug for whatever it costs the owner who's a friend of mine.

    Ratcheting wrench recommendations?

Are your GW made in Taiwan or China? The ones I bought a couple of years ago were made in China and are terrible. The metric offset wrenches are tolerable but had to warranty a 10mm the first time I used it and it wasn't from abuse. The SAE ones are flex joints and are so floppy they're...

    Best Garage Pump Hand Cleaner?

I use Snap-on Nitro Gold and have a wall mounted dispenser. It's the best that I have found without needing to use a brush. Dawn Platinum and a brush is my cheap option.

    Ratchet with built-in spinner wheel

I have an old 3/8 Husky ratchet with a thumb wheel. It's a CB-46, rebranded New Britain. The thumb wheel is just a thin plate added on but the anvil has a machined groove for a snap ring to retain the plate. Edit: CS-46 seems to be the 1/2" version.

Pliers Wrench (or similar): Pressing on the "wrong" handle

The way the Raptor wraps around a nut, I would say it requires more space than the PW but not significantly more. If you're working on small hydraulic lines close together, neither may work.

    Milwaukee pissed me off today

I never knew it was controversial to make a warranty claim on a defective battery within the specified time period. As long as the battery wasn't abused, I don't see the issue. If I paid for a battery and it's before 3 years from proof of purchase, I would be making the same claim. The M18 8.0...

Olsa USA ratchets really SK LP90 re-brands?

I wish I would have also bought the 24" non flex LP90 when it was on the Steals and Deals page. I think I paid $125 or $140 for the flex head version. I considered buying it anyway but the non flex is $190, out of stock, and SK has stopped listing country of origin. SK customer service said it's...

Mohawk System II Rebuild - cylinder help needed

On hydraulic cylinders around the farm that have a similar groove and window, usually there's a snap ring with a hook that you roll in to lock the gland nut back on or roll out if you're removing.

Olsa USA ratchets really SK LP90 re-brands?

I have often wondered if SK made the LP90 or outsourced it. In the beginning I assumed SK made it but after seeing Olsa having the same ratchet and the SK move from Illinois to Pennsylvania causing production issues, I started thinking SK outsourced it. I have heard that Wright has been making...

Pliers Wrench (or similar): Pressing on the "wrong" handle

I like the Raptors better than the plier wrench. I'll grab the Raptor since I can get more leverage but it's 10" and the plier wrench I have is only 7". The Raptor grips like the Cobra but doesn't marr the fastenal.
