    The SK X-Frame Ratcheting Wrench

I never have tried the USA versions but I have been happy with the Lowe's version. The SAE set I use more often than metric. I wish the metric kit didn't have skips though.

    Homemade Tools

I made a front main seal installer for a couple of John Deere engines I'm building. The tool should push the wear sleeve and seal at the same time. The JD tool looks very similar to the tool I made so it should work. I haven't tried it because I'm waiting on the machine shop.

Suggestions on 18" Flex head 3/8 drive

What do you plan on using the 18" ratchet for? If it's just going to be your general use ratchet, I think you would like a shorter ratchet better. I have a 3/8 Snap-on long flex in soft grip, hard grip and locking hard grip. I use the hard grip the most since it's easier to clean. The soft grip...

    Jumper cable recommendation

I have a set of the Deka but I have only used them once or twice since buying a Gooloo 4000 off Amazon for $100. I'm not sure where I currently have them since the small jump box is much handier and has no problem jumping my completely dead truck, tractors, and combine. It started a 755 cubic...

    SK Tools at Lowes?

I'm not far from you but around here there's is no HD. My options are Lowe's, Rural King, Tractor Supply or local hardware store. I usually try to shop at the local hardware store first but after hours my only options are the big box stores.

    SK Tools at Lowes?

That is my belief as well. It makes a lot of sense because if I remember right, the factory in Illinois wasn't part of the sale. My theory is that some tooling went to Wright for sockets, AJ Manufacturing started making the LP90s and everything else went to China. I've heard fewer complaints...

    Flex head ratchets - Why?

Those are awesome ratchets. My uncle has the New Britain one and I just ordered the Sparta one.

Project Farm tests flex-head ratchets (and one roto-head)

This is what I worked on last week. Someone at some point spent a lot of money at the machine shop and appears that everything was professionally put together. These bolts didn't care they were properly torqued 20 years ago. Aluminum and bolts don't mix well and neither do exhaust manifolds and...

Project Farm tests flex-head ratchets (and one roto-head)

When my only choice was a 12" Craftsman or a breaker bar, of course I would use the breaker bar and possibly a cheater pipe. I don't get why people are harping so much about using a breaker bar with today's long ratchets. The weak point is the anvil so it doesn't matter if I use a break bar or...

    SK Tools at Lowes?

Koon was saying how SK had several USA made tools but I believe everything that is made in the US is outsourced by SK. The green molded socket sets were nice but the round head ratchets in the kits are made in China. It would be interesting if SK included the LP90 ratchets. The X Frames...

    Gearwrench kit or Tekton

I would go with Tekton. GW seems to be hit or miss on the quality. The 120XP ratchets I have are decent (but I hate detents), the sockets never have failed me or broke but their ratchet wrenches are bottom tier. The 10mm locked up permanently the first time I used it and it wasn't from abuse...

SK X-Frame Wrenches - COO & Design Changes

I used the wrenches today tearing down an engine. They worked great and worked better than the Gearwrench set I bought. One of the GW locked up the first time I used it with very little effort. Some of the bolts went into aluminum housing so they can be tight. It was a good test and the ratchets...

SK X-Frame Wrenches - COO & Design Changes

I have yet to really use the X frames so I can't comment on if they're high quality or not. First impressions are that they are nice and the length is a bonus but I don't know the durability. My comment about SK being near the end or being rebranded Chinese tools is more about big companies...

SK X-Frame Wrenches - COO & Design Changes

I have a soft spot for SK since my first quality ratchet was a 45170. I want the company to continue and succeed but I believe SK is near the end or will eventually just be rebranded Chinese tools. Since the buyout, I have switched to buying mostly Wright or Snap-on. The X-frame wrenches were...

Am I getting old? No more air impacts?

I like my cordless tools but sometimes air is the best option either because of price or function. My Astro 3/8 impact is probably twice as powerful as my compact M18 stubby and only $100. My electric die grinder and 5" grinder are especially handy for field work or quick work but they won't...

SK X-Frame Wrenches - COO & Design Changes

I might end up taking the metric set back and try a set of Icon. The 16mm and 19 missing isn't a big deal since SAE can work on those. Missing the 18 really ***** though. John Deere really liked using 16 and 18mm so those sizes would be handy. Icon is around $40 more I think but is long pattern...

Anyone know of a 3 jaw chuck for rotary table or how to mount one to T slots?

I have a 15" Troyke with a 2" hole in the middle. At first, I had a plug that fits into the hole and threads into my chuck. I then used hold down clamps. With the backing plate on the chuck that added height so now I find true center of my table and then lay my chuck on top the table without the...

SK X-Frame Wrenches - COO & Design Changes

I bought the SAE and metric set today. I might try to find an older USA made 18mm and 19mm to complete the metric set and see if there's any difference. On the back of the box it says made in China. The ratchet mechanism feels nice and it does come in a nice foam tray. The wrenches are longer...

Help me pick a new 1/2 flex head ratchet

I much prefer the hard handles too. The hard handles are much easier to clean than the comfort grip and fit my hands better than the small chrome handles. My first Snap-on ratchet I bought was a comfort grip and while it's still holding up, it's the only comfort grip I own.

Project Farm tests flex-head ratchets (and one roto-head)

His tests don't prove or disprove Snap-on metallurgy is better than anyone else's. All his tests prove is that new ratchets can test as stronger or stronger than Snap-on. I'm more interested in longevity which is much harder to test. Perhaps Snap-on ratchets will have less wear on the gear and...
