Astro Thor Air Hammer Back In Stock

The only downside I have found to buying the 498K is not buying it sooner. It's much easier on my body pulling a trigger vs swinging a hammer.

    That mysterious unknown socket

SK made a non-warranty 7/16" socket I believe for Ford connecting rods back in the day. The shoulder was smaller than a normal 7/16 socket because it needed clearance to fit the bolt head. Since it was thinner than the regular socket, it had no warranty and considered as a wear item.

SK X-Frame Wrenches - COO & Design Changes

There's no arrow for direction but the angle of the open end is the direction that turns the bolt or nut.

SK already being clearanced at Lowes?

I looked for an individual 18mm. They seem to go for over $50 though. If they're made in the US, I would maybe think about buying one.

SK already being clearanced at Lowes?

The Lowe's SK sets are much better than my GW sets. GW is clunky and lock up often so I rarely use them. So far I have had good luck with my X-frame wrenches. I wish it went up to 18mm though.

SK already being clearanced at Lowes?

You really only need the 18mm. You can use the 7/16, 5/8 and 3/4 to supplement the metric set.

What is the point in 12 point sockets?

ARP fasteners are usually 12 point. On my 8.3 Cummins, the starter bolts and bolts for the rocker arms are 12 point. Working on that engine in the field can be a pain. I need SAE, metric and 12 point sockets.

SK already being clearanced at Lowes?

This was probably close to two months ago. I might be wrong but I think I remember the website showing 5 were in stock. Currently it's showing 4 in stock. Either I'm the only person who has bought the sets or they received more shipments.

SK already being clearanced at Lowes?

When I went to go buy them, Lowe's website showed where the display should have been but nothing there. The display for the tools was never unboxed. The designated spot was mostly empty but there wasn't any attempt by the employees to set out the tools.

SK already being clearanced at Lowes?

When I bought my set, Lowe's hadn't even opened up the shipping box and was sitting on the very top shelf. I'm not sure Lowe's even tried to sell any SK products.

Inherited, passed down, or gifted tools thread. If you received them for free, talk about them here.

My great uncle has given me several tools. Each time I see him he gives me more. My most used thing he has given me has been his Snap-on SAE line wrenches. They're probably from the 70s but they still work great. My most sentimental tool I have is my grandfather's old Morgan Chicago 45 vise. I...

Project Farm tests flex-head ratchets (and one roto-head)

I used and broke my SK breaker bar yesterday. Bought a repair kit for $16 off Ebay. I couldn't get a straight shot and at the angle, my long locking flex SO didn't want to stay on the bolt. The 4 foot cheater pipe didn't help the breaker bar. I ended up having to stick a 3/4" drive socket in a...

SK already being clearanced at Lowes?

My local Lowe's is showing 4 in stock for SAE and metric. I like my set but I would like them even better at $50 vs the $80 I paid. I have no complaints with mine yet except for the skips in the metric set.

    Speeding up engine hoist pumping?

I I do the same thing. Lift up and use my hand to pump. My ram drops but it's faster than not lifting.

    Astro Pneumatic Tool Company

I used a bolt rattler today to remove Allen cap screws on a burnt axle on a tractor that had sat outside in the weather for two years. I used my Astro 498K to drive a larger SAE hex into a metric since some were already rounded out and try to help break the rust bond. I still needed a torch on a...

    Astro Pneumatic Tool Company

My bolt rattler works awesome. I've used it to remove rusted exhaust bolts without breaking them. Using a torch may weaked the bolt or get something hot you don't want to get hot. Using a breaker bar may twist the bolt off. A striking wrench may work as good but I don't want to buy several...

    welding gas

Earlier this year I had a hard time getting argon. The welding supply store I use to use was bought out by AWG and must be short staffed because the aren't open the normal M-F and aren't always open. That made me waste a 1.5 hour trip once. Airgas had a bottle shortage. I offered to bring my...

    Astro Pneumatic Tool Company

I bought the Astro 498K last week. It's awesome and I use it more than my 401 Chief because the trigger control is that much better. I wish I bought the 401K instead of the Chief. It was bad timing since the smaller Thor came our just after I bought the Chief. The Chief is decent for the money...

    LockNLube Grease Gun Coupler

I have the regular length one and the long one. Long one works fine on u-joints on my truck and farm equipment. I bought the long one several years ago (~5 years) and just rebuilt it this past fall. Extremely handy on an electric grease gun and don't waste as much grease.

More new USA Locking Pliers from Snap On

I just bought the Astro 498K so I love using my air hammer. I use it over the HF Chief because of the trigger control. If a person who doesn't use vise grips often and has several older pairs, which style would you recommend? 7", 10", straight jaw, curved etc
