    Winch questions

General rule of thumb is a winch rated for 2.5 times your weight, at least for recovery purposes. Go with a synthetic rope and soft shackles, not steel.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I hear you, it was a complete ****** move by the NFL. I was up past midnight watching the game and didn't get wound down until 2:00 am. That was a boneheaded decision by the NFL to start that game at 10:00 PM Eastern. Your Seahawks look good, and exposed my Texans for the lackluster team...

Built a bracket out of spare red iron so that I could install a wall mount for the TV. I was able to install it while watching the Seahawks thump the Texans last night, which kinda sucked. The wall mount was purchased from Sam's club and allows the TV to extend out and rotate to the side if...

I broke down and purchased a new 55” TV for the shop. I’m just making sure that I’m ready for some Monday Night Football with my Texans tomorrow night. I’m sure we wont do very well, but I always hope for the best. :)

    Has anyone EVER used a 16mm or 18mm wrench/socket?

Both are found on American trucks, particularly in their steering and suspension components.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

As mentioned in earlier posts, I'm in the middle of a rear camera repair on my truck. The wiring harness arrived at the dealership yesterday, so I drove into Houston and picked it up today. Two of the connectors are under the bed, while the rest are in the actual tailgate. I removed the old...

Took Suggestions for scraping valve cover gasket.

This. They are super fast and work effortlessly. The first time I used one I instantly knew it was a game changer. The Titan brand is good, and carbide scrapers are cheap, so there is no reason not to get one.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

For sure! I practiced on an extra conductor before commiting to the vehicles harness, and butchered quite a few before getting it down. Practice makes perfect, or in my case, practice makes "ok".

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

The backup camera in my truck quit working so I started looking at it last weekend. I saw where two pins had been pulled out of a connector so I purchased a new connector, pins, and a pin crimp tool to do the repair. After doing the repair, the camera still wasn't working. I removed the...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I went with the Megaware KeelGuard. The decision was between the Megaware Keelguard and the Hamby, but I wasnt going to pay somebody else to do it. I read a lot of good things about the Megaware Keelguard, particularly with the new adhesive and primer, so I went with it. It's a bass boat, and...

    Thieves

Not many things worse than a thief, the list is definitely short. A cellular trail camera is your best option if its not a location you will be seen traveling to and from often. ***** that it happened to you, hopefully you find a way to get some of it back.

Milwaukee Impact Driver & Socket Adapters

It's great for drilling and driving screws, but not so much for automotive work. I'd recommend a 3/8 stubby if your going to be doing a lot of work with sockets.

Fall is around the corner, which means temps will start staying in the high 80's to low 90's during the day. With bearable fishing weather on the horizon, I thought it was probably a good time to clean up Jolene. Her thirties are looking pretty good :) As for what I actually did IN my...

    Dipping Ratchets in Oil

Good point. Maybe next time I'll take the time to disassemble and re-grease the mechanisms, it definitely wouldn't hurt to do so.

    Dipping Ratchets in Oil

I work them over for a few seconds, then wipe them down pretty good after soaking, so its minimal leakage once I've put them away. The ratchets I have done this too see almost zero actual work, and are being kept around more for sentimental reasons than anything else. They are almost 30 years...

    Dipping Ratchets in Oil

As standard procedure, I will wipe my tools down after every use, and then again with a lightly oiled rag after every couple of uses. However, there are tools that I don't typically use as as often as others, and I will on occasion dip them into a cup of clean oil and work them a few times...
