Is home depot getting rid of Klein?

Klein's must be selling well. They just build a new factory here in town to make more Klein tools here in Texas. Everybody knows that made in Texas is better than made in USA.

Too Many Sears/Craftsman posts, so what's one more!

These Sears / Craftsman threads have become so common we need to supply a numerical code for the responses to save our Journal members typing time. On all future threads refer to this list and just type in the number of your response. 1. I hate Sears 2. I love Sears 3. I loved the old Sears...

Best way to search for a home with a garage or building?

Most areas have realtor sponsored listings and a search engine that lets you specify bedrooms, bathrooms, and garage spaces. I found that using Google maps - satellite view allows me to take a good look at the property from the air. You can even rotate the view, makes it just like you have your...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

This vise sold this morning in a local on-line estate auction. $100 +10% buyers premium. No, I didn't buy it. Is this brand of vise so rare the someone would willingly pay $110 for a badly broken and badly welded example.

Just a important reminder about jack safety

I wonder what happens to that eight inch wide wheel when a six thousand pound pickup falls on it? Cinder blocks? Dust. Use good jack stands or cribbing.

    No gearhead properties..

My experience is almost the opposite from most listed so far. When I was in the process of retiring the wife wanted to move from Houston to western DFW to be close to our son and his wife. I started surfing the realtor web sites looking for a suitable property. Since we were moving from a four...

    Roof leak (or is it?)

If that brick chimney does indeed date back to 1959, my guess is that there are some micro cracks in the mortar that is letting water in and then channeling the water to the top of the fireplace mantel. I would have all the exterior brick tuck pointed and coat all the mortar with an acrylic sealant.

    Moving wheelless car?

I have seen guys make "shop wheels" out of 3/4 plywood. Work O.K. for forward and backward. Doesn't corner very well.

Organizing 101 and the reality of the situation.....

Well Strouty, my wife and I spent four hours this afternoon reorganizing a 3' x 5' coat closet. We feel your pain. My shop is an ongoing organization problem, just like yours. I come by my organizational problems honestly, my Dad was famous for saying "keep something for seven years and you will...

    Air Compressor Electric Shut-off Valve

A full port ball valve with an actuator using an open and a close solenoid valve is the best solution. Two solenoids are used as transitions with the ball valve position limit switches shutting off power to the solenoid after transition. Using just an Asco solenoid valve will work, but, you...

    Keep or toss duplicate tools?

Could be worse. I bought some tools at an estate sale and in the 1/2" Craftsman sockets, there were 23 9/16" sockets, ranging from -V- to EE. There were about 100 screwdrivers, none of which would make the starting rotation in my toolbox. Then there were the 38 worn out chainsaw files. That...

    Garage chair / stool recommendation

Buy a lead test kit, go back to Sears and swab the seat and run the lead test. Then you will know if the vinyl is safe to sit on.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Yup, go to the parts store and get replacements.

    Any substitute for Oil-Dri?

If you use detergent to soak up motor oil, you are perilously close to making napalm.

What have you used your engine hoist for besides engines?

Repotting very large potted plants. Lifting my new 56" HF toolboxes off their shipping pallets. Lifting a Ford 8" rear end into my PU when I was having some back trouble. Lifted a Ford 429 and C6 off the shipping pallet to bolt on an engine stand.

    Leveling floor with existing epoxy?

Yup, someone applied floor epoxy over vinyl tile (not all tiles are 12" x 12"). You can probably use a long handle floor scraper and pop those tiles off the floor fully intact.

Anyone have a Reed 403-1/2R Vise?

Now that this thread has been resurrected, I can provide a tip for those that need to replace their swivel pin in the future: buy some Cerrosafe casting alloy and pour it into the pin recess (plugging the bottom first). The Cerrosafe will give you an exact replica of the pin recess to design the...
